The more I watch, the more I think it’s the out of possession shape that is hurting ELF though. Habib is better able to do the legwork to get both forward and back, but I do think that we’d lose a bit from that too - not least as he gets gassed out. It seems that there’s little chance for a shape change without the ball - and 4-4-2 is tried and trusted tbf - so for me it really should be one of the wingers joining in. Has the advantage of being a more natural first sub too so it’s fine to burn them out in 60 mins.
I thought ELF was ok backpass aside, but I agree with your point about that position it doesn’t get the best out of him. I’m not sure it got the best out of Riggy either last year.

Hopefully nice wins over Betis and Rayo Vallecano to finish things off. New GK, CB and forward through before the final pre-season game as well. Rest can trickle in over the rest of the window. I'm not too bothered about the 'lack of depth' after the full 11 change as we won't see most of them.

With 5-7 new faces and a few lads back from injury, plus Reinildo & Xhaka, the depth will start to arrive imo. First eleven is the most important this window. I thought there was a few times when we should have played Mayenda through but we didn’t. talbi looked promising. His touch and technique seem excellent, and he’s quick, tracks back with enthusiasm. We saw a bit more danger from him today when we had the ball. One of the “experts” on X or a podcast mentioned that he takes too many speculative shots from distance, which I’ve noticed from him. A bit of polishing from expert coaches and he will be a great addition imo.
