We drove by there yesterday, and I said to Mrs Two how good it looked, well done to Wykeland. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
No, they were always going to move it to the other side of the Chambers. It was originally planned to be incorporated into a new hotel, with all the buildings linked together, but I don’t know if that’s still happening.
Quite enjoying the regeneration of Hull over the past few years. Felt like growing up there was always an eyesore everywhere you looked sticking out. Yes whitefriargate and the likes are pretty dead but unfortunately that's not a hull problem, but feels like they're making the best of it.
Its not going to be a pub though is it? Last I heard is that most of the interior stuff which was supposed to be saved 'brick by brick' has been lost and all they have left is some of the facia bricks, so all we are going to see of the Early de Grey is a frontage, and I even doubt if we will see that.
Fairly sure the plan all along was for just the green brick facade to be rebuilt. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
The plan is for it to be a pub or restaurant, depending on who takes it on and it was only the facade that was saved, it had been abandoned for over ten years and the interior was beyond saving.
Ref Wykeland, great developers and I'm sure they'll do a grand job of Earl De Grey. Recently had a walk around their Melton West business park to see the progress on the new Amazon mega warehouse, it's absolutely massive. Lots of companies down there and it's well over half full, what was clear though is that there are no services there, just the new pub, no costa coffee drive through, toilets etc, nothing at all for drivers, lorries just pulled over on the roadside, why is this? Amazon will have their own facilities but the smaller units don't?
Don't know how these things work but maybe the service companies like Costa, Greggs, etc don't want to be there? Too expensive maybe?
More companies moving from Hull to the East Riding, and taking revenue away from HCC, it's long overdue for the Hull boundary to be expanded. Hull West and Haltemprice, and Hull North and Cottingham is deemed good enough for the parliamentary constituencies, the same should go for the City's council wards.
