Planning permission is in for the old Grandways supermarket on Holderness Road, next to the old Crown pub. It's for a mezzanine inside with 14 bedrooms in multiple accommodation, with windows to the back of the property. About time this eyesore was tidied up. I saw her at Hull Truck a few years ago, just after the Hull Zumba gag was a thing, she was funny that night, but Ive since thought, she can’t get new material playing the same, I’m from ‘ull show, for long, good job she’s branched into TV to keep her in money.
Saw her and her husband, with a few other acts, at New Theatre on a charity night. Her act was probably the same one you saw. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
Gutted proper old school cafe always enjoyed going in here Sadness as Cottingham's popular Secret Garden café closes The branch in Beverley has also shut its door please log in to view this image The café was loved by many throughout the village(Image: Duncan Young) Customers have spoken of their sadness after a café closed after years at the heart of the Cottingham community. Cooplands' Secret Garden Café was renowned for offering customers friendship and conversation. The closure comes after the bakery chain announced that changes would have to be made for "sustainable growth". The team at Secret Garden thanked customers for supporting them over the years. They wrote: "We have loved serving you all and will take away lots of memories. Love the Secret Garden girls."
The cafe culture is a bit alien to us, as Mrs A will always veer me towards a pub. However we were in there last month. It was market day and actually very busy. Despite being very unimpressed by the ten or so market stalls which seemed to cater well for pet owners (we aren’t), I must say it did create a busy feel in Cottingham. Cafes all did seem to be busy. We walked out of one because they were short staffed and not coping. Mrs A went for a sandwich option and she was really not impressed, apparently the bread was very dry, which for a bakery, is unbelievable. They will no doubt blame cost of living/ covid for the closure, but if your product is poor, you are gonna struggle. I did enjoy my chicken curry Btw, we are normally quite easy to please. Looks like it’s back to pub lunches for us
If they don't improve the one in the town centre it will be closing soon too. Went in last week for a breakfast , very slow at getting served, managed to give my order to someone else so had to wait even longer for food and then when it came not much of it and fairly poor quality. 4/10
Not that long ago, stories about stabbings, murders, guns, and the like would have been news that really grabbed your attention - like, crickey, in Hull. Of course, stuff went on decades ago, but not like now. These things have become almost like an everyday event and worryingly we (society) seem to have become desensitized to it all. Frightening to think what it will be like in another say decade at this rate. Surely there has to come a point where the government deems 'enough is enough' and a real plan of action is put in place to address what's going on. That is just my logical thinking at work; in reality I have literally zero faith that anything meaningful would be done, and in practice things will continue to get worse.
Cooplands was bought in 2021 by Issa brothers, probably because they wanted their own sandwich supplier for their petrol stations, I wouldn’t be surprised if all the cafes close.
They make a good sandwich. Choice of bread, decent fillings, nice salad. Freshly made as you wait. My on the move lunch of choice, along with a Morri's meal deal.

Been in Hearth with friends for Sunday lunch first class as always.Decided to go to Brewdog for one last one for the road . We were the only only eight when we walked in and after three rounds of drinks we left the place empty .I know the company who owns the Princess Quay also owns Brewdog but very much doubt the bar is paying its way ?
Did one of these Hull Maritime walking tours again today (we did one ages ago when they were just practicing) Completely free, 2 1/2 hour wander round the City with a guide talking about our maritime heritage. I doubt there’s many of us who wouldn’t pick up one snippet you didn’t know. Really enjoyed it, and nice to be part of a group including us from Hull, others from South Bank and some from Hong Kong! Personally I think everyone from Hull should try and do it. (It is a long time stood up though. Not a massively long walk, but certainly tricky if you couldn’t stand that long) Free stuff…what’s not to like https://www.eventbrite.com/e/520349147307
As WC Fields once said I always keep a hip flask in my pocket in case I see a snake, which I also keep in my pocket.
She was quite good on Sunday Bruch at the weekend, she even admitted she'd banged on about Hull for too long now.
