Went in Sunday with oldest lad and his GF, my missus and our younger kids. After 3 rounds of drinks we could not stand the loud music any longer as it was stopping us being able to hear one another and we left. Wife and I have been very supportive of the place, loved the Seafood, often met her for lunch in there midweek and would go in for drinks on a regular basis but just lately they appear to no longer give a **** and it feels like they are doing you a favour by serving you. The music has been getting worse week after week to the point where it is now over the top. The few people in there were all looking around smiling at each other when it came on as if it was some kind of joke. As many have said it is not cheap but we find it fairly priced for what you get and the fact it is not cheap means you're unlikely to come across the types who frequent Diva's and Moderation! But they do not seem to have learnt from their early mistakes and have carried on with the things that are never going to work as well as seemingly not wanting to promote the place at all. For example Hull Trains staff get a decent discount in there but my missus only found this out 2 weeks ago, nobody ever told the staff, it was just the odd ones who knew. You would think they would have approached lots of the big companies in Hull and offered similar. Saturday discounts for City Members would likely have driven some footfall their way too. The 'shop' side of things is crap. Very over-priced product. Why would they not have asked Coyles to move in there on free rent? A decent butcher and baker? Offer some good value product to get people in the doors and then drive them towards the bar and food outlets. It just all seems so confused. A real shame as it could have been bloody brilliant in there. The Trinity Market was pretty good last time I went in, not as fancy looking but certainly was busier with people grabbing lunch and shopping.
What I struggle to understand is the apparent pleasure that some readers of Hull Live derive from the fact HoH appears to be struggling. It’s as if they want it to fail. ****ers.
Based on conversations I've had with people operating in there, the comment on the management of the place seemed fairly accurate.
It’ll be a shame if it fails, it’ll just give the sneery Beverley and West Hull village morons something else to slag off about Hull.
I’ve been in a couple of times and really enjoyed it. I’ve had a lot going on recently so haven’t been out much but will go back and try to support the place. I can’t say I noticed that it was pricey but as Jim mentioned, I’d rather pay a bit more and not have to look at a toothless serf on the next table like what you get in Moderation and the like.
According to the few I've spoken with, it's not well managed which has contributed to it not being a happy place for business, and that sort of thing filters through. It was a very small sample admittedly.
Because just like me you only had a walk through. We were actually looking for somewhere to eat and have a drink. Nothing jumps out and says eat here. Nice concept just not well executed.
There’s quite a few issues, it’s empty at the front giving a poor first impression, you get food from one row of places and then have to go to another row of places to get a drink (if you want a beer and a wine, you have to go to two different bars), the music’s often on really loud (even first thing in the morning), the shop sells expensive jars, cans and bottles of things nobody can be arsed to carry and as Dutch has said, it’s generally poorly managed. I’ve been several times and found the food to be pretty good and not particularly expensive, but it’s fairly obvious it’s not working as it is.

Kirk Akdemir, owner of Tasty sandwich bar and café, said: "Hull Street Food Nights and Yum! are both fantastic events for the city. We have seen in the past that they routinely attract a lot of people and we are delighted that they will be on our doorstep." Phil Benson, owner of The Store, in Pier Street, said: "There is much more to the Fruit Market than some people realise and hopefully we’ll see a few new faces coming in to try our locally-produced coffee, wine, beer, gin, confectionery, meats and other items." Jon Collins, who has been a Yum! Festival regular since he launched Cocoa Chocolatier in 2015, spent three years trading in Humber Street while his regular home in Trinity Market was being refurbished. He’s now looking forward to the return to his old neighbourhood, saying: "As Cocoa we’ve done the Yum! Festival every year it has been on since 2015. It’s one of the best events and even if I wasn’t working there I would be going to it."
In the late 80’s I worked with quite a few lads who’d worked on the bridge Earned a bloody fortune they did. Couple of them had paid their mortgage off before they were 40
Reading this it is clearly very much at the concept phase but if Hull FC were ever to aspire to having their own ground again they should be at the heart of this. A new Boulevard by the old docks like a mini version of what Everton are doing and we can then develop our own stadium exclusively with our own identity?
Little chance of that, I expect that if Acun gets the extended lease it's rumoured he wants, HCC will make sure that it includes Hull FC remaining at the MKM.
I’ve been in HoH a few times and I’ve enjoyed it. It’s always been a good ambience and I’ve like the food and drink. It’s a shame the set up is a bit bizarre because the concept is a really good one clearly being very badly managed. The shop side of things is everything OLM said. If you haven’t been yet, give it a try.
I.m going to venture in there on Saturday before the game, haven't been before, so hoping it is as good as people are saying.
Your problem now, is that Northern Soul (fish restaurant) and Grilla (burger/steak restaurant) have now closed, so there's only pizza or a breakfast place (or the coffee place that does cold stuff like sausage rolls and cakes).
