I may be old fashioned, but all this graffiti really make the place look a mess IMO. If there is a mural at the end of a building that takes up the whole side, then it is not so bad, but other than that I really think it makes the place look run down.
The bubble writing and tags you see do nothing for me and never have, but they’ve always been there. From what I can see in the last few years is that it’s mainly the large mural type stuff going up in prominent places and on the whole they look great. There’s loads near me around the avenues and they definitely brighten the place up without it feeling like a ghetto.
Bankside is run down with little chance of improvement, that and the Banksie mural there made it an easy decision for the council to designate the area for graffiti artists.
I totally agree, done well it adds some colour & variety to otherwise boring buildings - shoreditch in east London is a prime example of this
