Thanks, that'll teach me to read an article properly before commenting. Apologies to Hull CC.

So is the old Ice Arena officially Terry Geraghty's Folly now?

It's not had that bad an innings considering it must have opened in about 1987!

It's also been far from a folly. Cllr Hale is looking for a new on to be on the old Staples store site.

The old staples site next to Bonus Arena with a new Earl de Grey pub is a better location than behind St Stephens or where Geraghty put the original.

Is the new ice arena going to be an “arena”arena, or an ice rink?

If that makes any sense at all.

Just an ice rink I think.

Even if the new ice arena does go ahead in the new preferred site next to the Bonus, it will be at least five years away.

In some ways it feels like almost a waste of city centre land then.

Places like Leeds/Sheffield have got their basic ice rinks a bit out of the way.

You normally find ice rinks out of town, mainly so there's loads of free parking and I agree it's not a great site. Hearing Darren Hale on Burnsy this morning, the only thing he put forward as a reason for choosing there as the preferred site, seemed to be the fact that they already owned it.

Council owned site with two multi-storey car parks nearby, and the interchange nearby, sounds fine to me. :emoticon-0100-smile

The only bike lane should be the footpath. :emoticon-0100-smile

The £25m is just for the plans, not for any of the works.

i know this….£25 million is not enough for the investigations, GE solutions options, that will not be enough for a fully worked design
