Not surprised, way past their bbe. They put me in mind of Next, their clothing lines ran out steam years ago but they seem to have survived by moving into home stuff.
i think you might be underestimating their clothing business a tad, they’ve got a £4.3b turnover, most of which is on clothing. In fact, they’re the UK’s largest online clothing retailer and their figures are likely to get much better, as many of their competitors just disappeared.
Actually, there's four. The big one at the front of St Stephens, a massive one at Kingswood, a massive Home one at St Andrews Quay and an Outlet store in Prinny Quay (five, if you include the one at Anlaby Retail Park). I'd not really thought about how many there are here.
I'd be surprised if anyone seriously thought that Gap could be the UK's largest online clothing retailer.
I thought you were talking about Gap having $4b turnover! Didn't realise Next were still so big in clothing though.
Gap have a £16.4b turnover, but not much of it is in the UK, mainly because their gear is really mediocre (for some reason they seem to love it in the US and Asia).
Reading about the Gap closures, came across this statement. "We believe in Gap's global brand power. We are executing against Gap's Power Plan and partnering to amplify our global reach," the spokesperson said. I wish they'd just speak plain American. Or maybe that is plain American...
Be surprised That’s exactly what I thought No idea what any of their trade is like, I was just reading your reply and assumed you meant Gap Makes more sense now!
Just reading in Drapers (fashion trade mag), that the closure of Gap takes the UK job losses in fashion to 44,220.
I wonder how many 'new jobs' the pandemic has created, many of them in Covid test centres. I pass by two of them most days and they're nearly always deserted, save for the multitude of staff tossing it off there. The likes of Wernick, Sunbelt, G4S, and van hire companies are coining it in.
