That’s disappointing news. Hopefully she’ll get fixed up with something very soon. Sadly I can see this kind of situation happening Totally agree. I hope her new venture provides financial security.
And increase income taxes to help fund the creation of jobs for the young and pay the pensions of the older workers who retire earler ?
Maybe, to a degree. I could give you some other answers, but I would likely get banned from here for political / 'racist' / non p.c. / etc reasons ....
Of course. So reducing/forcing early retirement would increase the number of people who'll pay less taxes.
She's obviously a smart cookie Den and isn't one to say 'oh woe is me' but rather thinks, 'how can I make things work for me without being beholden to anyone else'.... good luck to her..
I'm 58 this year and would love to retire at 60 but it ain't going to happen I fear. Can't bear to think I have to press on until I'm 67 but that's how it is. My body tells me it's time to take a break every day after 41 years in the same industry with only 3 weeks out of work in that time. 65 would help.
We need to get this into the public eye. OBM...Old Blokes Matter. Not taking the knee though cos they're both ****ed and I would never get up again.
She is Cave Smarter than me and a great work ethic. She’ll find it difficult, but certainly a lot easier than if she chucked the towel in (she was explaining tonight what her new long term plan was...I’ve not even decided what I want to do when I grow up yet!!!)
i agree with this but there’s not many 60 year olds who are in a position to retire with the state pension at the level it is.
Yep agreed and if people want to not have to retire then raise the pension. if covid has shown anything it’s that the government can do anything really. And its about time they started looking after the people who have put it in for the country and worked for 40 years
Difficult because a lot of older people stilI have a lot to offer, ditching them at 60 or even 65 often seems a waste. I think there's scope for people starting to work less post-60 to achieve a couple of things, a less drastic transition from full-time working to retirement, a means of providing openings for younger people, and a way of not losing valuable experience. It needs to be made financially viable for all though so it would need some creative government input...
