There was an enhanced version of the croggy 'round our way, during the BMX craze of the early-mid 80s. The recipient would stand on the 'trick nuts' adorned to the rear wheel, as opposed to the shared seat/ front-to-cheek version you're probably remembering.

 

Saw a schoolkid coming down our road the other week with someone sat on his shoulders, veering all over the road, nearly smashed into a vehicle coming up the road as they were on the wrong side of the road. No doubt if there had been an accident the motorist would have got the blame and the two brats parents would have been up in arms demanding compensation for their little darlings.

 

A shared seat was a seater. Croggy was when you sat on the cross bar.

 

Excellent idea, can we have an alternative heritage one under the Boothferry Park railway bridge that says 1983 - Toty's Mob Never Run.
