Thanks OLM. Really been tarted up. Waggy's was the one with the bay-windows. I recall it was The Marlborough Club before Waggy bought it. A couple of days before the final game at BP I was in chatting to Waggy in his bar. He signed 4 copies of his biography that I bought off him. Out of the blue, he invited me to come down early to the game that Sat. to meet and get autographs of some of the ex-Tigers who attended the celebration. Felt like a little kid meeting all my heros - I must have been all but 2 years older than many of them. Great pic - I'm setting it up as a screen saver on one of my systems as we speak.
The old HU13 has been undergoing redevelopment works for weeks now, they seem to be totally gutting it all the way back to the bricks before refitting.
That’s my local it has a good selection of beers and gin. The foods good as well. HU13 next door is going to be a new 1884 Italian restaurant.
Noticed WHSmith had left Kingswood. That makes three empty stores with Brantano Footwear and Next also empty. Though, the latter is being converted into smaller units for the likes of Specsavers, Card Factory, The Works and two others I can’t remember.
Finally been confirmed that Fruit won’t reopen on Humber St Bloody disappointing All the statements were that it was opening for a refurb, but apparently it’s not reopening at all (as Fruit anyway) Best venue in Hull, and best beer menu of any venue I’ve ever been to I’m officially sulking
Opening for a refurb!! You're distraught. So what's going on then? That was the cornerstone of humber st.
I believe the lease was up and rents increased too much, but that may be me reading between the lines
I’m not 100% sure, but some are suggesting the area is partly owned by Wykeland and partly by Hull City Council (maybe a Fruit Market development joint venture?)
Oh I was correct without research (I could smell it) With a bit of research it’s a LLP Joint Venture with Wykeland as main partners and Hull City Council with a smaller investment (plus grant funding, £700k of which is to refurb Fruit) http://cityplanhull.co.uk/index.php/category/fruit-market/
Wasn't fruit the original place There when humber st was a ****hole Now due partly to fruit, humber st thrives and as a result prices have rocketed and not fruits **** out of luck? Shame really
Yep Dave recognised the potential early and kicked it off. He was wheeled out regularly (well a couple of times maybe) to speak about it at business events in the city Bloody shame
