How true is that...another avenue of thought perhaps.....but who knows. Incidentally has the gentleman in question actually aired his views at all in public...other that is the news of what he wants to do? As he offered his reasoning? Just a thought.........
We don't, but he claims the name change is for marketing - as for his ego that's the exact same criticism levelled at Cortese every time he's done something the majority of our fans don't like. Although, I must admit he seems to be more outspoken and flamboyant than Cortese. But hey, he's put Millions into the club, if it's a waste of money, it's his money to waste. Yep, he's spoken on the matter: http://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2013/sep/12/hull-city-assem-allam-premier-league - I don't agree with everything he's said, or at least the way he's phrased it, but he's confirmed it's for marketing purposes.
Has anyone actually remembered that this is a FOOTBALL CLUB? It's not just an ordinary business... This is an institution that was formed for the community. So many people going on about "oh but it'll increase product sales" "It makes business sense" etc.. We all moan about how football is becoming more like a business, how they all care about profit... But you're the ones allowing that. You're talking about it through business eyes.. Not in a traditional sense. Let's be honest; why are Manchester United successful in Asia? Come to think of it, why is England a very popular tourist destination for Asian people. I'll tell you why. Tradition. History. This name change won't change any sales in Asia at all... Because they all 'support' the traditional, successful clubs. Not some team that've spent most of their time in the lower leagues, and think that changing their name will suddenly make them a global brand.
Yes, because when clubs aren't run like a traditional business these days, they end up in League 1 on -10 points if they're lucky. If not they're liquidated and cease to exist at all. I know people here in the UK who've picked teams to support because they like the kit\were successful that game against some other team\ their parent's team lost to them at the first game they saw and a whole load of other random reasons besides. We picked up a whole load of Japanese fans when we signed Lee & then Yoshida - there's far more than being the club people follow than being a top 4 team, if adding 'Tigers' picks up the slightest fraction of Asian fans then it'll have been worth it to Hull (and 'I liked the name' is a real reason I've heard people give for initially following some sides).
Very true. When I was about 8 and just getting into football I watched the FA Cup semi finals and supported Crystal Palace over Liverpool because I liked their name and the red and blue kit. It was only a one-off and within a couple of seasons I was a Southampton fan and had a season ticket but that was natural really, it's where I lived. If I'd lived in the far east then I might have ended up a Palace fan.
15 miles but I've got chubby fingers on a little iPhone screen...that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.
Being reported that The FA have rejected Assem Allam's application to change the name of the club to 'Hull Tigers'.
10 miles. I knew it was up north somewhere but I swear I saw on a map this morning Hull located on the right hand side. No cheating!
