This is just too strange. A whole weekend with no football whatsoever. And barely any other sport. I have the feeling that next weekend isn't going to feel any better, or the one after that... That makes me wonder - by the time mass sporting events begin again, which could be months away, will they ever feel the same again? I know WW2 distrupted 'official' football for seven seasons. But the Government at the time knew how important for public morale football and other sports were. In reality, back in 1939 the break in football matches that people could go and watch lasted just a matter of weeks. And right through the War there were regional leagues. It's a worst case scenario I grant, But if there is no Football played for the next six months, when it does begin again will it ever be the same? Nothing was ever quite the same after WW2.
@lardiman Life is weird without sport. Horse racing will go next. This could do significant damage to our much loved clubs in the lower leagues.
There is lots of scope for job losses, closures, damage that will take years to put right... Race meetings, cinemas, concerts, any big club or restaurant. Leisure gatherings of all kinds. People will congregate in pubs in ever greater numbers (good news for them temporarily) and there will be trouble if the authorities try to block access to them. Tourism is suffering right now, with people not even booking day trips or short breaks within the UK. I think that might change though. Going away on holiday somewhere in this country doesn't mean having to mingle with crowds. There are plenty of lovely places to visit where you can enjoy open space. I think folks will need some holiday time after a while. Things are going to get pretty stressful. And looking on the bright side... Maybe no Proms and no Wimbledon this summer! Both of these bore me to tears.
Sorry, I've drifted off-topic for this thread. I don't think we'll get to play Hull this season, or Millwall at home, or anybody else. But the most important thing is that we all come through this alive, and preferably with our vulnerable loved ones still with us.
I managed to pick up a programme for this postponement. It might be worth £1 in 20 years time.....................
