Would be a far better option than Davies IMO, the Davies of 2 or 3season's ago would of been a very useful adition but if he cannot get a game at Bolton with the pretty average David N'Gog being the man keeping him out of the time why should we presume that Davies will walk in and get in ahead of Connor Wickham?

Almeida on the other hand and for 3m would be a brilliant signing, absolute rocket of a left foot on the bloke, great in the air, big enough to bully most defenders and only 27, us and Everton are repordly after him with Everton looking to put in a loan bid.

Don't get me wrong whoever we sign I will be fully behind the signing as MoN is the man but if we sign Davies on a permanent deal I cannot see what sort of impact he will make.

It may be just clever spending or whatever, but the fact that you seem to be going after cheap players... it kind of confuses me because I thought MoN was going to have a bigger transfer budget.

I expected a few big signings for Sunderland in this window.

It;s just this lad and Davies you've been linked to, neither will cost much so it kind of says to me that MoN hasn't been given much to spend this transfer window.

MoN has only been in the job 7-8 weeks i think he will make his major signings/changes in the summer.

Probably this. He's most likely just concerned at steadying the ship, and making you more consistent.

However it is true that in some of your games you lack that cutting edge, and I think you could really do with a quality striker up front. You could have easily gotten something from Chelsea and Spurs.

If you buy one I reckon you could easily pip Stoke to 8th place.

A few of you have snapped at me for this, because your goals tally is only slightly lower than ours, and your defence has conceded 1 less, but look at the points difference lads.

It's clear that we have put our chances away at the right times, where as you have won some games 4-1/4-0 and then only managed to score 1 in some games you could have won.

That happened to us last season. We were one of the highest scorers in the prem, and scored more last season than we have this season, but we have more points now and that's what matters.

We've been scoring goals at the right times. The amount of goals doesn't matter, as long as it's more than your opponent in a match.

    Just saying like.

MoN has been in the job for only a few weeks it would be mad and wrong of the club if we chucked money about in this transfer window. MoN still doesn't know his squad properly and the club's days of spending millions in the transfer windows (like in the Keane days) are pretty much over I think. I can see us going for 1 or 2 quality players each transfer window to improve us not a new starting XI.

Personally I think MoN and the club are keeping money back for the summer so MoN can get to know his squad and knows were he needs to strengthen, January is never a month were clubs let there best players go so I think the club are going down the right route this transfer window.

I agree we could have done with a forward im hoping we will sign Pav from Spurs on loan.

The problem with buying in January is clubs want alot more than what the players are worth. Also with every club knowing we could do with a forward the price will be even higher.

I do know im not worried about it we deffo have the right man in charge who i fully trust.

As far as i'm concerned big signings do not necessarily have to involve big fees. To me big signings are all about what they do on the pitch for my team. Kevin Phillips was a big signing but cost relatively little in terms of outlay. Just as i expect young James McClean to be. Why do people have a fixation on price.<cheers>

    Todays Echo.........

SUNDERLAND are weighing up a bid for unsettled Besiktas targetman Hugo Almeida.

The 6ft 3ins Portuguese international has scored seven goals in 15 appearances for the Turkish side this season but is believed to have fallen out with the club over finances and would jump at a move to the Premier League.

Besiktas value him in the £3m range but ideally Sunderland would like to take him on loan – as would Everton, who have also been alerted to the fact the 27-year-old is interested in a move.

Black Cats boss Martin O’Neill is keen to strengthen the squad with one or two signings before the transfer window closes and bringing in a new striker is his biggest priority, especially with Nicklas Bendtner now sidelined for weeks with a facial injury.

The Sunderland boss is looking for a frontman with physical presence, experience and quality.

Almeida would fit the bill, as would Bolton’s Kevin Davies, who is out of contract this summer.
