Pardon me for interrupting on your private grief but what is the point in looking back to what Hughton did or didn't do! It won't change anything and just ends up with more infighting! Look ahead and get behind the newbie!

Back to the OP rather than scrapping with the Binmen.Hughton wasn't a great manager but the continual barracking of him for half a season must have had some effect and I think this showed with some of the later results. So far from being CH's fault I think the pressure placed on him and the team probably has had a bigger effect on our (very likely) relegation.

As to the title of the thread, I wasn't aware that NCFC were no longer in existence. I thought NCFC had three games to go in the PL, with a very slim chance of staying up, and if they drop down then they do so in far better position than when they were promoted. To sum up; the phrase "CH destroyed the club" is nonsensical bollocks.

We will be relegated IMO unless we take four points from the last three games. Not impossible of course, but increasingly unlikely.I wasn't pro Hughton but I thought that things conspired against him.Adams seems capable enough but I am sort of expecting an Adams out campaign at some point soon.

it is my opinion that hughton was on a downer from the moment he walked through the door. this was partly his fault as he didn't get the pulses racing in both what he said or how he set his team up and many fans never took to him as a result. but many fans were still pining for lambert and his enthralling, footballing crusade through the divisions.

realistically, no matter who we appointed, they were always going to struggle to keep the fans onside as there was likely to be a levelling-off period. the club had overachieved massively in our first season back in the top flight and the squad needed overhauling. he focused on defence and structure - totally sensible given how shambolic we had been in that department the previous season - but it went against everything that we'd watched over the previous years, even though it was probably essential to the long-term prospects of the side. the problem is, he went too far that way and the balance was all wrong in trying to over compensate.

yet astonishingly, we overachieved again in his first season. we were favourites for the drop pre season. sure, it wasn't as exciting to watch as under lambert (although 2nd seasons never are for fans as the buzz of being back in the premier league has gone) but we stayed up, despite huge turmoil off the pitch during the summer that he was appointed. he didn't get anywhere near enough credit from those who had already decided they didn't like him. he did a bloody good job last season in what was clearly a transitional period. our 2nd season up was always likely to be our toughest if we harboured dreams of becoming more secure in the top flight.

this season has been different. he brought in some talented players and certainly tried to change the style and there were glimpses of promise but he never quite cracked it and he failed to solve the goal scoring issue that blighted his tenure. as soon as the home fans frustration turned to venom his position became untenable. he had his fair share of bad luck but equally he received more backing from the board than most clubs would have afforded him.

i think the board deserve credit for giving their man every chance to improve our and his situation but it was obvious he would not be manager next season. i feel the board were waiting for their 'next' man to become available before hughton would be removed. unfortunately the scenes against west brom meant that they could wait no longer. we'll never know if we'd have stayed up had he remained in charge - i personally think we would and still think we can under adams.

did he destroy the club? i think if you seriously believe that then you are massively exaggerating because of hatred. the former manager earned the club £100m during his 20 months at the club. you may not have enjoyed watching us play football during his tenure but he secured the clubs sixth best finish in the top flight, he brought fantastic wins against the likes of manchester united, manchester city, arsenal, spurs, everton. he was not a disaster - just not the right fit with our clubs fans. he never relegated us. he might have left us in a precarious position but he won't have a relegation on his CV because we were still five points above the drop when he left. he is still potentially a very good manager and will walk into another job this summer.

hughton was a guy who could have done better, but could have done worse. sadly, that doesn't suit some people who love to exaggerate everything.

Agree with this and those who argue that disunity was a major factor in our decline this year. CH must bear some responsibility, as do the players, but the booing and general negativity by portions of the Yellow Army were also major contributing factors.
