If Burnley operated under a similar regime they would have sacked Dyche long ago when he had a bad run of results, and he'd never had had the change to build what he has there. Ditto Howe ar Bournemouth, who's had some bad times in the Prem but has done a good job overall. He's got Brighton promoted and they're now looking at their 3rd consecutive season in the Premiership under him. Despite a bad run in the second half of the season, he's more than earned his chance to remain and build something. Watch Brighton join the Pardew /Allardyce/Moyes/Pullis merry-go-round of **** managers now.
Groot making some good points but I agree with dogscock on this one, he has earned the right to have a go at getting it right next season. New manager will have a decent warchest to go out and get some decent players in I guess but no guarantee's they'll get it right, why not afford Hughton the same luxury at the beginning of next season.
Had any NUFC manager oversaw a run of something like 3 wins in 23, fans would have been screaming for him to be sacked and rightly so. We sacked McClaren for a better record, in hindsight, maybe we should have given him longer. Being **** for 2/3rds of the season isn't exactly inspiring if you're a Brighton fan. Now, where's my rose tinted glasses.
Brighton have obviously decided they can do better and are making the change at the right time. I suspect theirs dressing room issues and many things we dont know
Yeah I don’t agree either and can also see why they’ve done it. A massive lack of patience despite having him operate on a budget which was likely to see him challenging for the spot he’s ended up in.
I will say one thing though. If Brighton genuinely have serious money to spend and are going to have a go, I think they’d be justified because like it or not players don’t want to sign for a Chris Hughton as much as a more marquee name. To make a jump you need to be attractive. I just don’t see them making that jump and therefore they are wrong and I’d say rolling the dice with next year. It won’t necessarily see them down if they appoint well. However the new guy will struggle to better the job Hughton has done on the same budget.
Rafa won 4 of his first 22 league games this season. We're we screaming for his head? Hughton has built something great at Brighton over the last 4 years, and a bad run of results at the end of this season doesn't suddenly make him a **** manager. The McClaren comparison isn't valid, he had got us relegated by being diabolical from the start, whereas this season Brighton already had the points on the board to keep them up. Second season syndrome is a genuine thing for promoted clubs and have happened to Brighton this season, yet he's still managed to keep them up. OK it's been a bad season and a bad run, but one they've survived, and guaranteed their 3rd successive season in the Prem under Houghton. The sacking is very harsh, and shows they've changed from having faith in a manager and letting him build, to the short term hire and fire that too many promoted clubs end up doing.
I think it's just pure business in this case. He's done great for them but I think they have an ambitious owner and he's probably looking at it and thinking they need a shake up which I would agree with. Sometimes you need an injection of new ideas to inspire some progress. They were very flat this year. They do have some decent attacking players but they were just too negative, too often.
Chris Hughton was sacked by Mike Ashley when Newcastle were comfortable in midtable and this after Hughton led Newcastle to the Championship Title. Chris would be unlikely to return but I would welcome him as a replacement for a departing Rafa Benitez.
