We have one game to win and that is Villa. So this how I think we could attack and defend. Of course it needs somebody to gee them up before they go out. Bunn Whittaker Martin Bassong Garrido Johnson Pilkington Howson Snodgrass Becchio Hoolahan Its one game and then all those who think CH is going to bring in footballing stars and turn it around next season can sit back and wait. I would tell those guys that they have nothing to be afraid of. If you can't pass it to a team mate, then keep it, but don't waste it. No launching it up the field. Play it to feet. Wes is the kingpin. He will attack their back four and force them to drop back in midfield. That will negate the need for two holding midfield players. I don't care if you muck up a few times Wes, I have confidence, you have confidence. I don't want you wide boys always looking for help from your full backs. The two you have behind you have European experience and will know when to hold and when to go past you. Johnny, I have faith in you. You were bought because you have attacking instincts and did have an eye for goal. I want you to fulfill that promise today and dictate whether we go left or right. And don't be afraid to shoot. Grant. Get back to playing football. No teasiness out there today. You were a cracking striker but you have not showed it for ages. Wes is back and he dovetails nicely with you. You will get plenty of service. I don't need you chasing aimless balls out wide. Stay in and around the box. I will tell the wide players not to try to be too accurate with their crosses. They will be put within a 25 square yard box in and around the penalty spot. Some will be aerial naturally but expect some driven in as well. But all of you, go out and play without fear. You can do this. The shackles are off and Villa are going to wonder what hit them today.
I would also like to see us go out fighting, but I can't see Holt in your line-up, Redruth. Also, are you suggesting a Diamond with Wes up front? Still, it would be great to just go for it, as you suggest.
Whilst I have posted a reasonably staunch defense of CH on this thread and I do believe that given time and the chance to develop his own squad we will progress I would love to see us do something to surprise Lambert. I would also like to see CH be more proactive with his substituions. Trouble is I can see us setting up to counter punch against Villa's shoddy defence and then concede late on when there is no time for any subs to influence the match. I'd love to see us take the game by the scruff of the neck and shake the premiership life out of Villa. A repeat of last seasons uteer dominance over them in this fixture would be just fine.
similar, but i'd like to see, but it won't happen - seems pilks is out of favour and also jackson, who has pace. Ruddy Whittaker R Bennett Bassong Martin Johnson Pilkington Hoolahan Snodgrass Holt Jackson
Is this actually what he's doing?? We seem to be relying on other teams slipping up to save us. Having NO shots on goal game after game and winning 2 games this year is NOT achieving anything, it's not a plan, it's hoplessness at best.
I'm sorry, but I'm sick of this 'CH has performed a miracle if he keeps us up' line. PL did it comfortably last season, with none of this end-of-season anguish and nail biting. He did it with a squad that all of us admit was weaker than this year's. And a squad who had virtually no premiership experience at all. CH has had more money to spend (which I admit he has generally spent very wisely) and he inherited a squad who'd had a successful season in the Prem behind them. So I don't think he is some kind of Superman if we squeeze into 17th place under his management.
Oh good God! I was at the Reading match, and I honestly don't believe that you were there because I don't see how anyone can claim with a straight face we didn't deserve the three points we got? And it is funny you don't mention how we deserved to beat Sunderland and draw with Arsenal etc....
Yes I would like to see a diamond as you say. I have not included Holt because I am going stupid and put Becchio in for some reason. Holt would be back to his partnership with Wes.
Thank God someone else has said this!! It makes me so angry that those who follow (can't bring myself to use the word beginning with sup.....) our Club can get away with saying we don't deserve to win games. I watched both these matches at Carrow Road, and watched our players run themselves into the ground for the club. Grrrrrrrrr! Speechless with rage. Thank God for the Youth Cup Game this evening. OTBC
Whatever Redruth. If anyone says we don't deserve to win games, when we do, then I reserve the right to wonder why they call themselves supporters. And I have the utmost respect for anyone who travels to away games to see us underachieve and lose. I was at the Wigan away, Liverpool away and Chelsea away games, and I did not enjoy them one bit, I swore a lot, and was hell to live with when I got back.
Because they are supporters with an opinion. And that's all we have on here. Does anybody really think that anyone at the club takes any notice of what is said on here. The rallying calls are for our own sake. This let's all get behind the boys on Saturday is mere platitudes. I live in Cornwall. Every match day I convince myself we are going to win. I put the shirt on. I put "We're the football team in the yellow and green" on. I sing a few songs and at weekends, when two of my grandsons are here with me, they go to football practice, not in Barca or Manure shirts, but yes you've guessed it. I watch the game with every emotion just under the surface and a win or even draw makes my weekend but a loss means I'm not approachable unless we have Curry for evening meal. And you know what, it makes no outcome to the drama that takes place for 90+ minutes or even the outcome. And it isn't for their sakes anyway. It's for me. Most of the players will be kissing some other club badge in a couple of years. But NCFC is for me. And you and all the other good folk on here of course. But we ain't all the same but we are all supporters whether we scream and shout or merely politely applaud.
I guess we'll have to agree to differ Redruth. I don't have a problem with that; I'm a famously argumentative person. I just think that this 'we didn't deserve to win' mantra is a new and worrying trend. And it is new. We had some really close fought and last minute wins under Lambert; but not once did I hear anyone say we didn't deserve these. I heard, and said myself,' we were lucky there' with a wry laugh, but I never heard it said that we didn't deserve it, and that these wins should be disregarded, because they run contrary to our argument that we are crap, and it's all the manager's fault.
I didn't have a problem with that part of your post. There have been games we have drawn or lost and deserved to win, Arsenal for instance. Never mind possession or position on the pitch or shots on target, we deserved to win that. Also games we were lucky to win of course eg Everton but of course we still deserved to win because we scored more goals.
Dangerous Marsupial, I was at the game and thought we were not the better team overall in the 90 minutes. Had two spells where we were playing some nice football on the wings and than Reading started pressing high up the pitch and we reverted to longball. We were playing against bottom of the table side and we couldn't string 2 passes together for 70 minutes of that game. I wasn't at the Sunderland or Arsenal game, although we did play well in those two games. I don't see why it's alright to say we deserved to win a game but than saying we deserved to lose a game is frowned upon, same thing isn't it? Frankly GorlestonGirl, saying I am not a supporter of the club because I expressed my opinion is absurd. If you don't like varying opinions and question someone that doesn't agree with your thoughts (which is obviously gospel) on football, than why are you on a discussion board? Also you say about players running themselves into the ground. It's not the players I've got the problem with at the moment.
Great. Relieved. That was the essence of my post; the bit about supporters/followers was OTT, though if you cornered me I could put up a robust defence of it, just for the hell of it! But I'm off to the FCR now, for a simple roof raising evening of supporting some very talented young lads.
