January 26 2012 at 02:37pm By HOSEA RAMPHEKWA As is the norm in every transfer period, Bafana Bafana hitman Katlego âKillerâ Mphela is linked with yet another move to Europe. For years Mphela has been linked with a move away from Mamelodi Sundowns. Yesterday it emerged that English Premiership side Queens Park Rangers (QPR) are interested in the services of South Africaâs number one striker. Mphelaâs manager Glyn Binkin confirmed that Mark Hughesâs side, which is just above the relegation zone in the lucrative English Premiership, are considering Mphela as an option. âThey have expressed interest in him but at the moment thereâs nothing concrete. Itâs far from settled but Killer is one of the options they are considering. For him, this is very attractive. We are looking at other options as well. Heâs still interested in moving to Europe,â said Binkin. Though Mphelaâs skills were honed in France when he was a teenager, he has, on a number of occasions been rumoured to be on his way to Europe but nothing materialised. Last season, the 27-year-old staged a stay away from Sundowns training apparently in protest of the club not wanting to release him to play abroad. Former Bafana defender Mark Fish, who played in Europe for years, feels itâs about time that Mphela makes a move to Europe. âIf the move doesnât work out, it would be disappointing. He needs to move. Itâs important that he does. Killer has done everything right in the PSL. He is currently the top scorer in the PSL and Bafana,â said Fish about the player who has scored 22 goals in 44 matches. During the last transfer window Mphela, who has scored nine goals so far this season, was granted trials at Scottish giants - Glasgow Celtic but was unsuccessful. Mphela is not the only South Africa player who is frantically looking for a move abroad without success. His national teammate Morgan Gould had an unsuccessful trial at Crystal Palace while Siphiwe Tshabalala also failed to impress the bosses at Nottingham Forest. Fish, who manned Bolton Wanderersâs defence in England, says players commitment and lack of success for Bafana are contributing towards the countryâs export rate. âItâs been difficult for our players to go overseas lately. I think the commitment of players has to be questioned. I donât think they have the heart of guys like Lucas Radebe or Phill Masinga. They have gone a bit soft. The lack of success by Bafana has also contributing. A bit of hard work will help the players,â said the former Orlando Pirates defender. - Pretoria News http://www.iol.co.za/sport/soccer/bafana/mphela-on-qpr-radar-1.1221060?
