I think most of us are glad Dean Smith isn't on the touchline, just for different reasons than yours Robbie. Meanwhile the injury list gets worse as Hernandez (ankle) seeing a specialist in London on Thurs to assess extent of injury. Definitely out for Stoke. Jon Rowe injured a hamstring in his run out earlier in the week and is out. Gibson (left hamstring) and Idah (foot) too early to say for this weekend. Will now be assessed.
Who has to go? Gunn? He charged of his line to close the angle, I’d hardly call that a mistake and would have been fine if Hanley hadn’t bundled it into his own net. What other mistakes has he made?
Agree about Gunn, but there was no way Hanley could know the ball would rebound off the post and deflect off him into the goal.
We have 2 really good shot stopper goalkeepers in Gunn and Krul, but unfortunately both are prone to poor tactical errors and decision making. Neither are good with the ball at their feet, but persist in trying to play out from the back, with disastrous results this season.
There was no angle to close down, he had defensive cover, the ball was just a looping lob down the middle which would not have run towards Gunn and it was clear that even if Gunn had got out nearer the ball he would have been out of his area and couldn't have done anything about. As for other mistakes I can recall a bad distribution error a few games ago, how many goals from corners or crosses could have been avoided if he had the ability to come off his line and either get the ball or terrify the forward and, worst of all, how many times does he get beaten at his near post - a criminal offence for a keeper. I rest my case m'lud.
Didn't you say that because of strict punishment for illegal streaming in France you only watch the live games on Sky ? Gunn has made way less errors than Krul this season
If you had bothered to read my original post you will see that I said that I had watched the last two games on Sky - I have never watched a stream apart from the one running through the bottom of my garden. Apart from that I can only watch the highlights programmes which, surprisingly enough, give a strong clue to the performance of the GK. I never mentioned Krul who, I believe, is out of contract at the end of the season in any event.
You don't get to see all of the good work Gunn does on the short highlights clips clearly as he's kept us in quite a few games since retaining the gloves
I wasn't blaming Hanley, just saying you could hardly blame Gunn when the strikers shot didn't go in but the rebound off Hanley did
As someone who has watched 95% of all our games this season I can comfortably say that there isn't an issue with Gunn's distribution - he is actually very good, of course the odd pass goes astray, but it's the same for Ederson/Alisson. His shot stopping and reactions have been very good as well. I would also doubt that we have conceded many from corners. Having watched a few of the highlight packages after games they are not always comprehensive in showing the opposing teams chances.
WhoScored's player ratings were quite high, with Gunn as Motm: Tzolis did well in his first start and good marks for Aaron's playing further forward and for Gibson and Hanley as well.
