Some sections of City's 1,200 traveling support at Huddersfield Town on Sunday jeered the 21-year-old and chanted 'you're not fit to wear the shirt' before sarcastically applauding when he was substituted in the 86th minute for striker Tyler Smith with City heading towards a 2-0 defeat. Dawson, though, launched a staunch defence of Longman, a player he says he has full trust in and will continue to back, despite criticism from some fans. "Listen, he's got our backing," a visibly frustrated Dawson told Hull Live. "He's a fantastic young footballer that gives everything every day so he has our full support. He will be a player, absolutely he will be a player. "He was important last year, he's been important this year and he'll be important next as well. That's the disappointment sometimes when people see the result first. "Ryan kept making those runs, he never stopped. If we're going to have a culture, an environment where working hard is then he's the main man we go to. "Yes, Ryan will improve and he will. He's a young player, he's a human being and yes he lacked confidence. He was the first one to admit that we should have been coming in at 1-1. "I respect that as a human being, I respect that as a footballer and that's the reality. It should have been 1-1 at half-time but fair play to him for admitting it. "Does he have our full support and will be a top player? Absolutely, yes he will. I understand the frustration, of course, I do. We're frustrated on the sideline, too. Football doesn't always go your way."
Some of our fans are total ****houses, a ****ish minority thank **** - we've always had our fair share of them, first one I really recall getting stick was Mally Lord, there's loads more right up to today; they're just **** fans with no class.
This sort of stuff ****s me off immeasurably. Okay, he's going through a bad spell of form which is completely normal for a young player but he's only 21. He always gives his all though and hopefully a new coaching team can really improve him. He's just completely out of confidence and playing under Shota absolutely crippled him
Seems Matt Ingram isn't afraid to 'sort of' point a finger... Sunday's 2-0 loss at Huddersfield Town was the latest example of City finding it tough to deal with balls into their box as the Terriers scored from a Lewie Coyle own goal and a Michal Helik header early in the second half, while at the other end a number of good openings were passed up. “In the box it comes down to getting first contacts in our box, two set-pieces again and then not making the most of our opportunities in their box, it’s the same old story," Ingram said at the time. “It’s people doing their jobs, seeing their job out. Everyone’s given a man to mark and you need to mark your man. At the other end its desire to get on the end of the ball. It is a tough thing to work on in training as it is not a technical or tactical thing, it is literally sticking with your man and making sure he does not score. “Whether it’s a desire thing or not I don’t know but we need to address it and we need to address it fast. Against Blackburn, other than the one we conceded from we were good on set pieces. Last year we prided ourselves on being good from set-pieces, but I think we’ve lost four first contacts in the last two games and we’ve conceded on every one, it’s ruthless. “If I have to come to the ball, I do that and clean everyone out and that’s job done. But as a goalkeeper, you can’t come for every ball and that’s where you rely on your teammates to do their best to stop their goal happening.” City shipped 16 times from corners and free-kicks last season and already the tally this term has hit seven after Sunday's loss. It's something that must be addressed because opposition teams see the Tigers as a soft touch inside their own penalty box - they know it's happening but yet cannot find a way to stop it. Is it a concentration problem, a coaching problem, or is it a quality problem? One thing that time has proven is that it was a serious issue under Grant McCann's watch, it wasn't solved by Shota Arveladze's nine-month stint and it continues to blight the caretaker reign of Andy Dawson.
At this level and above we ha e been notoriously poor since Brucie left, numerous managers and coaches have come and gone and not one has come to terms with it, for me it's poor coaching, all this zonal shyte, combined with lesser quality. For me the likes of Greaves has potential but he needs to to man up a bit, he gets bullied regularly, Jones again is a young man trying to do a mans job. We.missed a trick, we need a nasty orrible bugger in there who ain't afraid to stick his head were it hurts, together with a coach who understands the art of defending. I though Figs may be that man, but he is currently suffering a crisis of confidence
A year older than Guy Gibson when he led the Dambusters raid. 5 years older than the average age of a Battle Of Britain pilot. Same age as Bobby Moore when he was captain of the World Cup winning team. It must be awful to be a youngster grappling to come to terms with playing Championship football.
Sat way off them and gave them all the time in the world to make a pass. Extremely frustrating to watch. And we need a couple of players with gumption (great word). Docherty is possibly one of the two but we need a motivated 'winner' (win at all costs) in the team and we haven't got one. When was the last time you saw one of ours in the referees ear influencing his thinking/actions?
I've already said this earlier, but Greaves doesn't have bravery to get his head on the ball, hence why he doesn't score and we generally are poor at defending set pieces, this is something lacking in his game. The 2 central defenders seem to be concentrating on trying to stop the opponent by shirt-pulling rather than concentrating on the ball and attacking it.
Straight up sense, doesn't even win the ball either Seri won it more than him in half an hour on the field Sunday...
