FFS? I don't disagree with the need for centre halves to start winning headers in both boxes (personally I think they have been pretty ****). However that doesn't alter the fact that the first line of defence is to prevent the situation occuring in the first place. This could be, full backs blocking crosses or god forbid we defend as a team to prevent the opposition from creating an opportunity to get a cross in. The latter would be even better. We are struggling all over the pitch both to defend and to create anything. Big job for someone. Try and chill PLT
Neither is Coyle. People tend to defend him, seemingly because he’s a Hull lad, but I can’t remember seeing a player as panicky as he is on the ball for a long time, he just looks very uncomfortable in possession. There, I’ve said it.
I highly doubt anyone was ever going to pay £8 million for him, maybe 2-3 million for potential. He’s been terrible at set pieces for grabbing players, it’s still a mystery to me how he hasn’t given more penalties away.
I've watched Greaves in games, and I think he lacks a bit of bravery in the air. Hence why we concede regularly at set pieces and he rarely gets his head on a ball in an attacking area. Curtis Davis always attacked the ball and got his head on most things at both ends of the pitch, and that is something in Greaves's game which is lacking IMO.
We lost out to a team that wanted it more yesterday, they looked sharper to get on 2nd and 3rd balls. Whether that was fatigue I'm not sure, but a few players looked lethargic. I thought Christie was poor, it was his missed tackle that allowed them to get the ball in the box for Coyle's OG, and he was generally not at it. Coyle at least looked to be one of the few that looked arsed, was unfortunate with the OG. but at least tried. I thought Greaves in particular was off it, and maybe needs a game or two out to get his sharpness back. Pelkas should have at least hit the target early on when we looked on the front foot, and Longman really had to put that chance away just before halftime, as that would have changed the mood of the game. Certainly, Docherty looked like our best player when he came on, and I thought after his showing against Wigan when he came on he should have started. With Slater out in the next game, I guess he will get his chance. I think Seri has to come back in, he needs games to start getting the best out of him. I guess the most important thing now is getting a new coach sorted, he has to turn these players from eleven individuals playing at present into a cohesive unit. No easy job though!
Are we hung over from Shota? Last week we started to move the ball quicker giving us chances , yesterday we reverted for the first half then when the changed midfield came on there was more energy. His style was pass them to death or pass through it didn’t work . What is blatantly obvious is that nearly every player was always 5-10 yds off the man receiving so we didn’t make as my tackles , they were at us and stronger picking up the loose balls. Don’t our players anticipate at all ?
We are REALLY missing KLP aren't we, think most of us spent the summer thinking we'd not miss him with the names being brought in, but the reality is that he was our main attacking outlet last year, able to get in behind and dribble at players like no one at present in the first team can.
50k and he's starting games , doesn't say much for our recruitment this summer does it we've wasted far more on other signings who have had almost zero impact
We had our issues early last season defending corners. I recall one away game we conceded (maybe Hudds)’ when the area in front of the goal was clear of all players from either side and there was a wrestling match going on involving say 18 players way beyond the far post. One of the most bizarre things I’ve seen defending a corner. Shots did sort it out, but similar problems have resurfaced.
Jesus, he wasn't great but don't be making stuff up to support that conclusion. Christie won his tackle but the ball rebounded to another one of theirs who went forward and put the cross in.
If you see it, IMO he got there a fraction late, I think he shouldn't have gone in as he did, just held his ground and made sure the cross didn't come in, but he gambled and lost out.
I thought Tetteh was doing an excellent job in that role until the hamstring... wasn't missing KLP at all...in fact Pierre after almost 3 months I dont think anyone has mentioned missing him.
Don't think we were anywhere near as bad as some are making out. Longman puts his effort in and Coyle stays away from that cross and its probably a completely different game. We've still got big problems, but the way we lost that game was still a damn sight better than how we were playing a few weeks ago. Even if we were to keep Dawson in charge for the season I don't think we'll get relegated. Obviously avoiding relegation doesn't align with the aspirations we supposedly have, but every game is winnable in this league, likewise the opposite. We need some good performances, cut out the mistakes, more time and better direction for the new signings and we can start to look like we'll challenge some of the sides in this league. A good run saved us from relegation last season. The same again would put us back in the top half looking up rather than down. The only signing I could legit knock right now is Figueredo. I think everyone else brings something, or at least potentially brings something to improve the side.
I keep replaying yesterday's Helik goal in my mind. Can't remember the last time we had a centre half who could do what he did, ie charge into the box, get his head on the ball, scattering defenders in his wake. Our current pair will never do that.
Behave! KLP is not an answer to anything other than, Hull City ripped off Brentford for £20 millionish for which injured player who can barely get a game when he’s fit? The money should have been spent building a team, not on random mercenaries the owner knows of & are always good on football manager. Acun should learn patience, or else he’ll be bored very quickly & flog is off to some random owner who has even less clue about football ownership.
The reports of the Longman chants and cheering when he was subbed yesterday are really disgraceful. Scapegoated for missing a chance, lets ignore the great run to get the chance, lets ignore that he was one of the few players on the pitch showing effort.
“You’re not fit to wear the shirt” a small section shouted. He has been terrible since his move on a permanent but that won’t help him or the team.
