Hogan isn't, but Russel is available to play (and presumably Cort will play as well) My criticism of BWP was mainly because in the first half he got caught off side ALL the time, it was really frustrating as so many times he was caught offside or had to leave dangerous through passes as he was a long way off, and much of the time this was because he didn't get back quickly enough. In the second half, Kermit was far more energetic, chasing down the keeper and harrying defenders, which BWP didn't do so much of. BWP had 2 chances, both on target though the left footed short was fairly weak.
You think the winger's past him then Solly somehow mysteriously emerges with the ball heading upfield. Must be witchcraft. Powell said it was a kick on the back of the leg. Doesn't sound too bad. Should be fit for the Cup match but not the end of the world if he needs a bit longer as we have Hughes and Pritchard. Yermorgant twisted his ankle which can be nasty but looking at it again it didn't seem too sharp or forceful so two weeks rest may be enough. Again, Hayes is a very capable substitute and unlucky to lose his place after our excellent start, though that proved a good call by CP.
BWP should have done better when he'd rounded the defender, but a couple of his single touches (keeping the ball on at the by-line with a backheel for a good example) just set him that level above League One, even on a quiet day.
Anyone seen how sore a loser Lee Clark is? He seemed it during the match when sky cameras showed him rollocking the officals but my, if he doesn't get fined for those comments no one will! http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/15815020.stm
What did they say on Sky about the second goal, as it was difficult trying to lip read Curbs at half time! Green caught the Huddersfield player after he played the ball out of play, did they think it should have been a foul, as that was what Clark was unhappy about I guess. The referee did seem to give a lot of 50/50 decisions their way through much of the 2nd half, was he trying to even things out?
Curbs said they thought it should of been a free kick, for green catching him after he kicked it out. Clark said the ref signaled it was their throw in, which watching again, he clearly didn't! To be honest its the free kick for the first goal that was harsh!
The ref gave us everything first half and them everything second half. I am surprised no-one has mentioned the deliberate push on Kermorgant's back in the second half. Definite penalty, but I don't blame the ref for not giving it as you could only see it from the side. And Kermorgant didn't make an issue of it once he got to his feet. We had some luck but deserved to win. And I am not impressed by them hitting the woodwork twice. One was a mis-hit centre and the other was a great save. And since when was the keeper not part of the team? If Bennett was as good as Hamer he might have held the shot for our second goal. He did well to block it once there but was a tad slow to get there. And what a ridiculous remark by Clark "I'm not ... saying it's the referee, but this was a referee who gave a controversial decision against us two years ago here, so it's not something I'm surprised about".
I remember Shields scoring a cracker from 35 yards out at the valley... although nostalgia may have added 5 or 10 yards. Last night was so good. Before even getting onto the players, what great support! Really good attendance for a monday game on the box, and the noise was terrific. And it was matched by a super battling performance. Watching the players trying to run after 85 minutes, you could see they'de all given everything they had. I don't even want to single out any of the starting 11 for praise, but I could do so for absolutely any of them.
I agree. Luckily it affected both teams equally. 22 (plus) very honest players out there, a rare event these days. Something that hasn't been remarked on was the quality of the tackling. You rarely see so much such forceful but legal tackling at this level. Which is why there were only two goals scored. And tackling is very much part of the skill of playing football. The ref gave 27 fouls but I cannot remember one that was spiteful. All credit to both teams and the Huddersfield players were good losers even if their manager wasn't.
There were a few Udds fans in the pub I was at. It reminded me of why I like away games in Yorkshire - the sense of injustice from the home fans after about 50 mins, when they just start shouting abuse at the referee if they're not 2-0 up already.
Fatal, watching football in a pub - I have now returned to full sobriety and have thoroughly embarrassed myself by re-reading my posts from last night. "Does anybody remember Greg Shields?" Can't believe I wrote that... I reckon about 35 yards as well, FloydRoadie, went in like a rocket. Hardly been able to stop smiling today and I breezed through six hours of meetings and a hundred-odd miles without a second's thought. Thoroughly uplifting performance.
Owlstalk is hilarious. Similar, yes. The Udds forum is great too. Their conclusion is that they were the better team, but we had the better defence and attack... and midfield. I agree with them
Which is why it reminded me of away days in Yorkshire. Even Halifax were at it. Can't wait for the trip to Hillsborough. HANDBALL!
