Generally I'd expect most players to want to play at the highest possible level...but the money goes with it.

Hypothetical I know, but how many players would want to stay in the Premier League if the Championship paid more - not many.

I don't begrudge him his move whatever the reason - it's his choice and he's been a great servant to the club.

Maybe shouldn't have got the captaincy so early but I liked him. Not only could he score but if you actually watch what he does in games, he very rarely gave the ball away.

He's comfortable on the ball and also makes himself available for it. This 'going missing' fantasy happens to every player, it's just that as captain you take more flack for it. Look at Clayton recently, he's gone off the boil after a lively start. That's why they're Championship players.

Granted I only see about a dozen games a season but if someone who's played in and won the European Cup rates him, I'm in no position to disagree with him.

Hes a lead by example kind of captain like fabregas was at arsenal. i think captains like that do more for the team than ud imagine, just cos they dont shout and ball doesnt mean theyre not a good leader

For me there was too many games where he went missing, he was rarely a lead by example player, okay the memorable victories he stood up and took the game by the scruff of the neck but not often enough for me.

There's a considerable difference between Fabregas and Mr Howson, to tell you the truth I don't rate Fabregas as a captain either.

I suppose thats a matter of opinion, i like the captain to gee his players up, and yes, lead by example, but i agree with IALLFB, he played some great games for us, but he also went missing, you don't want your captain to do that.
    just my opinion mind,<ok>

Been saying this all along. He choose league position and money over the club he supposedly loved since a boy. So bye bye and **** off. Loyal servent? till he gets a better offer. Snodgrass is 10x more loyal than Howson.

Don't blame him for wanting prem football, but FFS Norwich. Can't disagree that the club seems well run , or that they have a loyal local support or that the manager seems to be doing a good job, but if he was good enough he'd have been snapped up by one of the top 6 teams. Another thing, the club started talks with him 12 months ago, he ran his contract down, he could have signed a 1 year extension because 12 months ago he wouldn't have know if we'd be promotion contenders or not. IMO Norwich will be a flash in the pan and next season may struggle. I know it's very remote that we'll get up this season, but I'd fooooking love it if we did.

I think reading between the lines he was talked into a 'wait and see' situation by Grayson. I have no doubt that if we were 12 points clear at the top he would not be leaving. He wanted Premiership football with Leeds and if he can't get that and with lack of funds and quality coming through the door why sign up for an extension. I don't see it getting any better this year or next or even the one after that until Bates is out and I am starting to suspect Graysons ability too.

With Norwich he has more chance of making the starting 11 and possibly being in the shop window for the bigger teams, 18 months to 2 years at Norwich and with an improvement under Lambert maybe he will get a transfer to a team like your Spurs, Arsenal or Liverpool. I doubt it myself but you never know...

I don't really understand this talk of doubting Grayson's ability. I'm undecided on him I suppose. I think he at least deserves a chance to prove himself with the funds to actually sign the players he wants, some of the players we've been more seriously linked with in the last year or so have been pretty good, and those deals "fell through" at the last minute for "some reason".

    Contradiction?

He got us promoted, he can work with limited funds, he got the best out of Gradel and Clayton we sometimes put in some stunning performances. However I am under no illusion that our last three performances we played against 10 men the majority of the match. I can't figure out why we sign Forssell, Mika, Rogers, Townsend and Delph and neglect the defence. Our defence has been a let down for the best part of two years, we see players like Bromby, Connolly and O'Brien come in they look okay and then we seem to destroy them.

We watch players not fit to wear the Leeds shirt like Rachbuka, Paynter and Bruce and when you have a chairman banging on about what money we don't have and that Grayson controls the budget for players including wages I have to question why so much gets wasted. Take Rachbuka, he might have already cost us a play off spot and I doubt he will ever wear a Leeds shirt again. We have Mikka who has done little, now we bring Delph on loan ahead of him, (a good thing yes) but if a loan signing is ahead of a squad player you have to question what does that squad player offer the team and why was Nunez given a three year contract if he is even further down the pecking order?

We sign Pugh yet we had Sam and now we sign Rogers, we have Paynter who we reportedly turned down an offer for at the start of the season for, all complete madness...

Never heard anything about an offer. Was it free board & lodgings at a donkey sanctuary?

I agree with Jud, in my opinion Howson's a traitor. Better players than him have turned down interest from PL clubs & chosen to stay loyal to their clubs by signing a new contract/contract extension, for example Boro captain Matthew Bates, & Zaha at Palace. Howson could easily have done the same- greedy bastard.
    The guy's complete scum.

I do not blame howson in the slightest for taking up the opportunity of premier league football because in all fairness he is at the age where he needs continual improvement and im sure his ambitions dont just lie at playing for an average prem team all his life either. He'll want to get better every year, try to get into europe, england caps and what not. Whether he does or not and whether he is good enough or not is a different matter. Everyone wants to get better at their job and sometimes to do that you do need to be that slight bit selfish, its just annoying we didnt offer a better contract to keep him
