Because we had a team that should and did go up and one way or another Beckfords goals got us promoted, we took the gamble and it paid off, had we sold Beckford I dare say we would have had another season in leagure one. Howson hasn't the same impact, keeping him will not see us get promoted this year.
Most footy players are lucky to get 15 years of paid work, if he turns out to be any good he will be sold to a big club by us again.... The only players to stay at 1 club are Man ..
Would you stay in your present job if someone else offered you more money (possibly double). I'm assuming you're gainfully employed.
You're not suggesting Howson went for more money are you, He wanted to play premiership football, i'm sure he'd have gone for the same money, because thats where he wanted to play, i believe him, don't you?
He's been at the club for 5 years, stayed with us at our darkest point - when he could have left - and for 3 years in League One, then sees the best players leave in the summer. Why on earth would he stay when the club are showing no ambition to get promoted?
Good luck Jonny boy. Thanks for the last few years. Always good to see home grown players come through but you can't get in the way of someone who wants to play in the Prem. Will always remember his double at Carlisle in the play off second leg, even though we lost to Donny in the final. Once Norwich have trained him to play premiership football, we'll have him back when we're there.............
well that's 1 way of looking at it,or [we spent 3.5 years nurturing a wimpy local lad hoping to make a player out of him despite only being average we persevered. The last 18 months, although being no star player he's started to repay a bit of that faith.A prem club came in so he took the money and ran.]
Will never forget some of his goals. Both v carlisle in the playoffs and the one v bristol rovers lead to some of the wildest celebrations ive ever seen and been part of. Then there was his 'perfect' hattrick at scunny, his late winner when we came from 2 down to beat burnley, and his 2 passes to beckford at scum and spurs. It was his work rate that really earned the respect though. Will always remember him going to RB vs Blackpool when we were down to 10 men and putting in a massive shift, didnt even look out of place. Goodbye, goodluck! ONE JOHNNY HOWSON!
To be a feeder club you would have to be lower, losing your best players and maybe getting their cast off sh-t.. maybe your right.mind you that makes festa our's..
Is Howson really that good? He had more average games than good games and seemed to struggle against quality mdifielders, he tended to go missing quite a lot. He certainly wasn't a very good captain, I never noticed him trying to get players motivated and up for the battle. Don't get me wrong I liked him but mainly because he was a Leeds lad, he did give us some great moments but he isn't that great a loss, I would have been more concerned if Snoddy or Clayton had gone.
