Ellis is balancing the books. Hoping money will be available in the Summer as we're now debt free.

I'd welcome those 'Orrid Boro lot back like. As well as any other Yorkshire teams. North of Manchester isn't represented enough in this league.

Stabilised slightly from last year but playing a dull brand of football and sadly won't get the cup run.

Stable is fine if we look at developing the squad over the coming windows.

I think that's what's happening. Squad development is in line with Shorts money management. This Summer's TV money should give us a healthy kitty. If it doesn't, we need to start asking questions of Ellis.

Agreed. No point in being stable forever if you're not going to at least try to push every so often.

We aren't much better off than last season yet I feel we are better, we have better cover and have offloaded a lot of deadwood. I said it would take a couple of seasons to recover from the defiant I/di canio debacle. We have the same annoying habits of looking to push on and they screwing it up. Beating the mags and then losing to Hull was as predictable as it was unacceptable. Then against 10 man Villa......argh 1 point from what should have been at least 4.

I expect little to come from the January window given our last couple of goes being pretty useless. Have we made a good signing in January.....?

    Graham, N'diaye, scocco etc.

Congerton does seem to have made some decent signings though and I was surprised by the quality. Of the French fullback who has been brilliant. I think Rodwell will end up a good buy.

So I don't go into the new year full of hope. Do we have a better first team than this time last year? Would ki and borini walk straight into the first team? However I think we are a better squad and more organised.

We are better when we have all our players fit, but we could have done with Alonso signing for us as well as PVA.

I don't think we've done too badly, except against Hull. We've been badly hampered by the fact that Giaccherini and Alvarez were both injured at once. The attack desperately needed more support and didn't get it. It didn't help that Rodwell took time to find his feet here either. But now all three are beginning to shape up, I think we might do better. Impressed by Revellere, and that was an area where cover was thin. Might be wrong here, but when he didn't get a game against Newcastle (his best game last season) I got the feeling that Altidore was on his way in January. If we can buy or loan someone who fits the Poyet plan better, that would be excellent.

One worry is that two teams below us have signed new managers. West Brom will surely pick up more points now - no one knows how to nick a point better than Tony Pulis. And no one knows how Pardew is going to do at a club where he's wanted. So we might have to pull our fingers out a bit. All in all though, it doesn't look bad.
