I was going to check out my Dad's birthday, January 26, 1916 (during WW1 so perhaps matches suspended) but the attached listing only goes back to 1920/21 season, but one thing I did note was that almost all the fixtures that season were back to back home/away games against the same opponent, a list that includes Merthyr Town I wonder that the reason was behind that? http://www.espn.co.uk/football/sport/match/index.html?event=14;season=1920/21;team=336 Football League Division Three South /1920/21 /Queens Park Rangers /results Date Home Away August 1920 Sat 28 Queens Park Rangers 1-2 Watford September 1920 Thu 2 Queens Park Rangers 1-2 Northampton Town Sat 4 Watford 0-2 Queens Park Rangers Mon 6 Northampton Town 0-3 Queens Park Rangers Sat 11 Queens Park Rangers 2-0 Reading Sat 18 Reading 0-0 Queens Park Rangers Sat 25 Queens Park Rangers 4-1 Luton Town October 1920 Sat 2 Luton Town 2-1 Queens Park Rangers Sat 9 Queens Park Rangers 2-0 Southend United Sat 16 Southend United 1-0 Queens Park Rangers Sat 23 Swansea Town 1-3 Queens Park Rangers Sat 30 Queens Park Rangers 1-1 Swansea Town November 1920 Sat 6 Southampton 2-2 Queens Park Rangers Sat 13 Queens Park Rangers 0-0 Southampton Sat 20 Grimsby Town 2-1 Queens Park Rangers Sat 27 Queens Park Rangers 2-0 Grimsby Town December 1920 Sat 4 Brighton & Hove Albion 2-1 Queens Park Rangers Sat 11 Queens Park Rangers 4-0 Brighton & Hove Albion Sat 18 Queens Park Rangers 3-0 Crystal Palace Sat 25 Brentford 0-2 Queens Park Rangers Mon 27 Queens Park Rangers 1-0 Brentford January 1921 Sat 1 Crystal Palace 0-0 Queens Park Rangers Sat 15 Merthyr Town 3-1 Queens Park Rangers Sat 22 Queens Park Rangers 4-2 Merthyr Town February 1921 Sat 5 Norwich City 2-0 Queens Park Rangers Sat 12 Plymouth Argyle 1-0 Queens Park Rangers Thu 17 Queens Park Rangers 2-0 Norwich City Sat 26 Exeter City 0-1 Queens Park Rangers March 1921 Sat 5 Queens Park Rangers 2-1 Exeter City Sat 12 Millwall 0-0 Queens Park Rangers Thu 17 Queens Park Rangers 4-0 Plymouth Argyle Sat 19 Queens Park Rangers 0-0 Millwall Fri 25 Bristol Rovers 3-0 Queens Park Rangers Sat 26 Queens Park Rangers 2-0 Newport County Mon 28 Queens Park Rangers 2-1 Bristol Rovers April 1921 Sat 2 Newport County 1-3 Queens Park Rangers Sat 9 Queens Park Rangers 0-1 Gillingham Sat 16 Gillingham 1-2 Queens Park Rangers Sat 23 Queens Park Rangers 1-0 Swindon Town Sat 30 Swindon Town 0-1 Queens Park Rangers May 1921 Mon 2 Queens Park Rangers 0-0 Portsmouth Sat 7 Portsmouth 0-0 Queens Park Rangers
When I arrived we were League Cup holders, Div3 Winners, (Jul 67) although the last result on 13/5 was a 2-1 defeat at Oxford and the start of the new season was a 1-1 draw at Portsmouth, not sure which one was closer. Great stats though! Kilburn - the days of four local derbies in a 15 day period over Christmas. Unusual though especially if you had to play the weakest/strongest team as the last match of the season.
Saturday May 31st 1952 3rd Div South Queens Park Rangers 1-1 Gillingham My dad was probably at the game!
Interesting, the year we lost JFK. Recently going through some old postcards sent from France during WWI, I noted that each year my Grandfather sent one for Dad (Jan 26th) and another for his wife (Jan 27th).
Good idea for a thread. Norwich were losing to Ipswich QPR were drawing with Watford, all in Division Three South! Head-to-head: Norwich 2 QPR 0, QPR 3 Norwich 1, honours even
I was going to check out my Dad's birthday, January 26, 1916 (during WW1 so perhaps matches suspended) but the attached listing only goes back to 1920/21 season, Saturday 1st January 1916 Scottish Division One (old)Table » Celtic 2-2 Rangers Dundee 1-1 Aberdeen Falkirk 1-2 Clyde Kilmarnock 1-1 St Mirren Morton 8-2 Airdrieonians (old) Motherwell 0-3 Hamilton Academical Partick Thistle 1-0 Third Lanark Queen's Park 2-2 Ayr United Raith Rovers 1-0 Dumbarton I wonder why Scottish football was still going on during the war was it too far for the zepellins to fly
this was the closest football results I could find for your dad kilburn Saturday 29th January 1916 Scottish Division One (old)Table » Airdrieonians (old) 2-1 Dumbarton Celtic 3-1 Ayr United Dundee 1-0 Clyde Falkirk 2-1 St Mirren Heart of Midlothian 2-1 Raith Rovers Kilmarnock 3-0 Hamilton Academical Morton 5-1 Hibernian Motherwell 2-2 Rangers Partick Thistle 5-0 Queen's Park Third Lanark 6-2 Aberdeen
I see Queen's Park, less Rangers, had a bad day, although my Grandfather was likely not too interested in that result.
