How we could be allowed to sign Joe Allen.

Discussion in 'Liverpool' started by Flappy Flanagan (JK), Jul 12, 2012.

  1. I think people are asking the wrong question. Rather than "is he better than what we have?", it should be "is Allen a player we need?" or "does Allen play in a position in need of recruitments?".

My answer would be yes to the first and no to the second and third <ok>

True enough with my thinking of Gerrard Lucas Allen we have to consider that we already have Henderson, Adam, Shelvey etc that can play there. Personally I would still like us to get him.

No disrepect to Swansea but he now has better players at his disposal and greater access to the better players in the marker. This will enable him to add a bit more incision and penetration to his style, to compliment the possessio.

I don't want us to sign Dempsey again we should be looking at younger players.

True. Our priorities should lie with the top 3 of his formation. If we can get Borini but then sell Carroll, we still need another strirker and maybe 1 or 2 inside forwards.

With the emergence of Shelvey and Henderson, perhaps Dempsey will provide a short term solution which will give the youngsters a chance to develop and mature into that role?

And if we did lose Carroll, CLint would give us a physical presence.

Maybe, I don't really want that signing but would of course be cheering him on if it comes off.

luv, I really hate the position that we are all in at the present. I want to be excited about this season. I want to go on the Manc board and tell them why they won't win - again and why we will get 4th. But I can't!

  9. Fair point <ok>

I'm mixed. He is a good player that could help us achieve the first step of CL football but he is not a long term option either. If he helps us get CL then we would be able to attract better players to achieve step two. And so on...

Don't get the negativity. Allen is a fine young player and we'd do well to sign him, before one of our rivals does.

I'd rather see him in red than Adam or Spearing, Aqua is probably going (despite what his agent says) and Cole... Don't start me on Cole.

He'd fit our passing style immediately, full of confidence after a great year, grow around better players and I think he'd become a key player.

He's the type of midfielder I like - balance, technique, subtlety, finesse... If he was called Alleninho we'd all want him here.

I know what you mean, but I think we'll win it every year. Every bloody year I look like a mug! Being an optamist is ****.

I like the fact that what we have in Rodgers is someone with a long term plan and a clear idea about how he feels football should be played. Pre-season is frustrating I hope that the upcoming friendlies start giving everyone some confidence but with the majority of the squad out we may be more worried by the time the season starts.

Do me a favour better players, well where were they at the Liberty hmmmmm? I think you'll find that Brenda isn't the draw he thinks he is, he only goes after a very limited number of players eg from old teams of his, we're giving him 3 seasons tops, autumn winter and spring. Thanks for the dosh you've been done son !

To be honest. I am not too bothered if we sign Allen or not; I do not rate him as much as some of our midfield starters e.g. Gerrard and Lucas however if we were offered a straight up swap between Adam and Allen I'd gladly take the latter.

I do not think of either of these players are what I would call starters for our club though; in fact if we signed Allen i'd be quite frankly more worried about Henderson's progress (My punt: a player that in my opinion if given the opportunity will be our strongest midfielder this year). I mean we already have Aquilani coming back (if he stays), and that boy can pass!

The only midfield signing we should make is a back-up to Lucas (a defensive midfield player preferably). Other than that I say sign no more centre-midfield players!

For us Britton sat, Siggy flitted about behind the striker trying to score and create and Allen was a mixture of the 2.
He's box to box, has a thirst for work, keeps possession well, looks for killer balls and chips in with some goals. His energy increases the tempo. He's improved every year and last year he did some very clever things....our cutest player. Frankly given the cash you lot were chucking about I'd want no less than £20-25 million for him, he's got 4/5 years until he peaks!!

    A way for everyone to fit into your new system could be;

    ---------------Reina-----------------
    --------Skrtel------Agger-----------
    Johnson---------------------Enrique
    ---------Lucas----Allen-------------
    Suarez-----Gerrard------Borini----
    ------------Carroll-----------------

Suarez and Gerrard being interchangeable and Bellamy coming off the bench for Borini or Carroll (with Borini switching to CF if Carroll makes way)

That team would work incredibly hard and hardly waste the ball. The only question mark being whether Carroll, Borini, Suarez and Gerrard could get enough goals.
As he doesn't seem to like Carroll he MUST be looking for an out and out centre-forward. I don't buy this 'false 9' nonsense......Graham was a workhorse target man, not a false 9.
