I was responding to a post a few back that said if you gave the LC winners a conference spot then you'd have a different winner every year - or something like that. (7th isn't a European club per se, it only is by default.) Bolded bit - aren't all teams in it anyway?
I'm going to have to read back and pay attention because it's all a bit confusing to me now I'm sure people are doing it on purpose.
Mito’s point is that if you exclude all teams in Europe out of the league cup, the quality of teams that will qualify for a European tournament will be lesser. Because the top 6 won’t be able to enter into the tournament so the ‘biggest’ team you’ll get would be a West Ham/Villa/Newcastle if they win but could end up with a palace/brentford/bournemouth in theory because traditionally top 6 would be city liverpool arsenal chelsea United spurs and none of them would be in the competition. His point is Uefa woukdnt want that because they want the biggest and best clubs in their comps (even their lowest one) for ratings and tv and at the moment, even though anyone is able to win the league cup, it’s been one by one of the top 6 anyway so that last euro place has gone to them or team that finished 7th anyway
Yes, the English Football League Cup, EFL Cup if you're lazy, and the EFL if you're lazier still - like most of us.
But as soon as you google if your team is in the cup then it can no longer be both in and out of the cup but instead it is one or the other depending on what you observe.
My point was that the Euro Conference doesn't get the big names anyway, because they're usually in the two premier European competitions. Probably no-one in UEFA had heard of West Ham when they went in it.
And is usually inferred, but we got into a run of calling it the EFL, don' t know how and cba to check.
I've the perfect solution to this. First Everton are bankrupt. Second city should be expelled. Simple solution is just say OK now it's an 18 team league. Get rid of those two and don't replace. Let the efl pick up the broken carcuses.
Thsts not fair. I'm sure someone remembers Trevor brooking from their short stint in 1981but I'm sure you'd agree very few are alive to recall them winning the cup winners sup back in the 1960s
True, but the principle holds that all the best teams will be in the other two competitions. They might get a big name or two that are currently pants - like Man U or Chelsea, so that should satisfy them anyway.
