Signing the likes of Le Fondre from cash strapped Reading, and now Adeyemi from Brum for similar reasons is a bit of a turnaround. We're now being seen as the predators of the division being called "moneybags Cardiff" because of our new found ability to compete on financial terms with previously wealthy clubs.

I can remember when we took the money and sold Roger Johnson to Brum when he was the mainstay of our defence at the time. Under Sullivan and Gold, they were able to dictate the deals and we often went along like lambs under Ridsdale through sheer necessity. Ramsey to Arsenal was another "forced sale" back then just like it appears Le Fondre and Adeyemi are now. Wealthy Madjeski's Reading under Coppell were the new kids on the block 10 years ago whilst we laboured under heavy debt from the Hamman era.

Boot's on the other foot now guys - and it's good to be here now when we've been there. I think I can take the taunts we'll hear about "buying success" blah, blah, blah. New ground, new stand, new manager, new players and a new found sense of being in control, rather than being pushed around will do fine for me.
 
Agreed Sparks, the biggest hurt for me was Graham Kavanagh being sold.

It was the start of all our better players being snapped up for peanuts.
 
If people are to be believed there are some fans who have never been back down the City since they sold Toshack!!

In reality even clubs much bigger than City eg Everton, Tottenham etc are selling clubs.
 
I just hope we are in control Sparks and, more to the point, who has the control in the club? Obviously VT at the top. Can we assume Dalman has carte blanche to authorise purchases or will VT want to know the ins and outs of a duck's whatsit before any money goes out?

Dalman looks to be much more of a football man and, perhaps more importantly, businessman than Teflon Lim ever was so I have much more confidence in us doing it right going forward. The money we are apparently getting for Medel and Mutch bears that out. If we sign Adeyemi it will be interesting if some of the financial info comes out - probably not but it would be nice.

The same goes for Sane, if he comes - we have a dire need for new centre backs.

If we get Adeyemi and Sane I hope that will cover one of my concerns going into the new season - the spine of the team. If we end up with Marshall, Sane, Dikgacoi, Adeyemi and any 2 from 4 good strikers then, subject to the new comers living up to their reputations, we should have that covered.

And around £20m still in the bank from sales v. purchases.

Just got to do it on the pitch then. From what I see and hear many pundits are now dismissing us.
 
Just had the same conversation with an Everton fan working for me Sparky.

Holding out for reasonable fees and not grabbing the first one on offer, telling Leeds they can sign Hudson, but only after we've done our business, signing our players early (La Fondre, Guerra, Machada, Dikawatsit, Burgerandstella) without having to sell first.

A refreshing change not being bottom of the food chain. Not at the top, but certainly not at the bottom.
 
By being "in control" Bluey, I mean at our level viz, the Championship where we laboured under the cosh of debt.

There are obviously much (mutch?) bigger clubs than us who we would find difficult to ignore if they made the right noises and offered squillions for any of our players. The point is that where we are now, we need not buckle under the pressure of "needing the money" to do silly deals.

Without wishing to be arrogant, we now have the ability to be the ones doing the coshing instead of taking it over the head all the bloody time.
 
yes its nice to be taking advantage of the financial plights of other clubs. in usual circumstances i would feel sorry for the likes of brum, but after the way they shafted us time and time again, i hope they have more young, quality players we can get below market value next year………….<ok>

Many people use the term "selling Club" in an attempt to somehow ridicule the Club who,for whatever reasons,are doing the selling.

The reality,surely, is that ALL Clubs are "selling Clubs",as indeed they are also "buying Clubs",unless all your players are freebies that is. But even freebies cost money,with signing on, and agents fees.

Looking forward to Blackburn,I bet.

Only 2 clubs i believe you couldn't class as a Selling club and they would be Barcelona and Real Madrid all the rest of us will sell to a so called bigger club.

Nice though to not have clubs coming in and taking our best players at silly low amounts, unless of course they were signed by Malky and allowed to leave for peanuts <whistle> <whistle>
 
Now that Adeyemi has been signed for a relatively low fee for such a good midfield prospect, should we be ashamed at ourselves for taking advantage of another club's hard times?

We did it before to Brum when Mutch wanted to come to us rather than extend his contract with Brum - we are fast becoming a nuisance to some other clubs..........

............on the other hand, perhaps not?
