My mother always called Easter Sunday 'paste egg day'.
Clockstander : Interesting point about Hylton Castle. At some point, centuries ago, the Hylton family who had it married one of the Washington family from Washington. They say the U.S, stars and stripes flag is based on the Washington coat of arms. But if you look at it, placed just above and a bit to the right of the main gateway at Hylton, it isn't stars and stripes! It's spurs and stripes. Have a look. We don't know the reason for the discrepancy.

The Hylton family are spread far and wide, two or three prominent members being early settlers in America, also Hyltons settled in Jamaica arround Savanna la Mar, and this branch of the family tried to lay claim to the Hylton Estate,s in the early 1700,s. We always had Paste Eggs just after the war when chocolate was very expensive, and the colour was obtained using onion skins.
Modern mate like my last one we are aiming to move in around xmas digger coming on Thursday to dig the garden out so I can get a caravan in I have bought so I can connect it upto the house and then the work begins.
I didn't think our lass would but once I managed to get her to see it she could see its potential it does not look as old as it is but it has its own orchard and a garage at the bottom of the garden must of been used as a hall for the comb mill workers years ago because there is a hook in the ceiling and when you pull it down a cinema screen appears. lol.

So where's this idyllic place then? Somewhere in the lakes I'm guessing?
Aye mate on the River Bela ( but a bit higher lol. ) it used to be the owners house who had the comb mill on the river bank in the early 1700s its nowt to look at but it will be eventually.
