Reports in the Portuguese press today state that Spurs did not put an offer in on Friday.
Only "fluffy discussions " to appease their coach AVB as he was his main target.
Reminds me of the so called Rossi, Augero , and a host of other comic failed bids.

I would be inclined to agree with this version as it seems to fit better with the events as they panned out watching 'live'.
Spurs did good business through the window and although the performances so far have been disappointing, we have acquired some more than useful players. I have a feeling that the failure to get Moutinho had more to do with Porto than Levy.
 
It seems that those who dislike Levy will ignore all evidence to the contrary and blame him anyway. On balance it seems he's not to blame for this one, and those arguing (with hindsight) that an earlier higher offer should have gone in anyway aren't arguing in business terms. "The price is £20m, OK then we'll give you £25m..." We are unlikely to hear Spurs side from Spurs though, because they don't want to risk annoying Porto in case of a move in the next window.
 
I can only go on pass form concerning Levy.
With countless failures concerning any player that will cost 18 million plus , I can only go by the evidence .
Our high end transfer policy resembles a Billy Liar film.
We will never sign Moult till a radical change of direction.
 
As convinced as AVB is that JM is the answer, opinion is evenly split here, so its a chance to keep an eye on what some consider an expensive punt.
 
It was Duncan Castles who was saying 'hang on a minute, this deal is certainly not done' when Sky were reporting it as a done deal. Duncan appears to have close contacts within the Spurs and Chavski camps but seems less informed about the goons.

Jim Duggan who runs the Topspurs website is trying to start a Twitter campaign to get Daniel Levy to be little more open and sit down a be questioned by a Journo, whether he will succeed only time will tell. Personally I'd like Daniel Levy to write a book on his time at Spurs when it eventually finishes. It would be interesting to get the info straight from the horses mouth.

What/who are these countless failures??? Other than having a reputation for 'late' dealing which does cause disruption entering the new season - but equally which some would argue is just 'business' - I cannot recall too many top dollar signings who we have seriously been in for yet not got through th clubs transfer dealing policy.

And right now, with no CL to offer, we are hardly the most attractive proposition for a really top and established player.
 
There is absolutely no evidence that Porto would have accepted an early bid anyway. Given their own brinkmanship (according to more than one source) and putting the price up at the last minute, they sound like the sort of club who would wait to the last minute to see if any other bids come in anyway. They seem to have a reputation for hard headed dealings.
 
If Duncan Castles account is on the ball there is a lesson to be learnt, agree terms and conditions with the player before negociations are finalised with the club.

I doubt that's possible tostsfan, you can't agree terms and conditions with another clubs player. You can only do this when the selling club agrees.

Augero, Rossi, Llorente , Willian , Damiao, Oscar, to name a few. Harry said Levy tabled bids for the first two (Mickey Mouse offers no doubt )
The proof is that anyone is quality and demands a true value we will not buy them. ENIC PR stunt.

Sid - you clearly do not like DL and ENIC and thats fine - its your opinion. But your examples only hold so much water, as none of us really know what has been proposed. And relying on a Harry window-interview is not the strongest evidence.....

We were always likely to be second best for Llorente, Damiao and Oscar due to the lure of more $$ and CL at other clubs. The same would undoubtedly have applied to Aguero. Willan looked to be a done deal but was not a marquee signing and not have broken the bank, so I cannot imagine that one failed other than the fact that 2 sides failed to agree terms.

And while we are on 'transfer policy', i reckon that we have done better holding onto our best players and recruiting others than our NL rivals - who have more cash to offer and the CL......
 
R69, Well we haven,t done that well holding on to our best players. Modric. VDV , Berb, Carrick, have all gone. Bale in a couple of years by our track record.
I agree a little better than Arsenal but two wrong's don't make a ?
