My local council spent a fortune, widening a path for about a mile to make the route more cyclist-friendly, so now we have a fairly narrow road just wide enough for two cars, and a really wide, smooth, cycle path... that's a good thing I hear all cyclists say... aha, it would be a good thing, but they all still use the road
I got a letter saying I will be getting a letter in the post if the first letter does not reach me they would then send out another letter to confirm that I would be getting the first letter to first confirm the follow up letter !
They do nowt manually round here, they have a full armoured division to cut the grass, its like world war three, a few years ago it was one bloke with a sickle, today lorries, tractors power mowers followed by a petrol driven wind machine to blow the grass cuttings about. And all this effort appears to be sub-contracted of course, nice little earer for somebody who knows exactly what to tender and to who.
Yeh in my day I chopped up concrete car drives with a four inch chisel and hammer on my hands and knees
Served my apprenticeship for the council or PWD as it was then. First opportunity I got I took my superann out. Invested it in a high earner account. Then when that matured my bank manager says spend half and keep on risking the higher dividend accounts. Everybody will be ripped off by the time our pensions come around. Its worked out better for me and surprised she was that honest about it. Council was great to work for.
This waste re postage is nearly everywhere when post is computer system generated - NHS has a great track record on letters for appointments & cancellations - duplicate and triplicate notifications - .......£
My wife has worked every Christmas since we had kids (5 years ago). She a paediatrician and every Christmas eve (as she generally left before the kids were up on Christmas day) she just explained she was going to help sick children and my kids accepted it - did rile quite a lot when Hunt went on about doctors "lacking a sense of vocation" though. To be honest working bank holidays doesn't bother me in the slightest, I wasn't bothered working Christmas or weekends either prior to having kids. I still put in 10-12 hours each weekend, just after the kids have gone to sleep
Cancelled appointments are a whole area of waste in themselves. My wife will have a clinic list of say 6 patients and be lucky if half of them turn up, massive waste of time and money. If people cannot make appointments and do not notify the hospital in advance there should be a fine, it costs the country millions in waste and there are tons of repeat offenders.
Anybody who misses two appointments in a row without reasonable excuse then NHS should refuse to see them in the future, if you miss appointments within 18 month period at our dentists your moved from his list, no arguing, more should be like that.
So right there its so selfish/thoughtless/ignorant (take your pick) as NHS is a privilge service for everyone here - in most cases a quick call for a cancellation is not a problem - repeat no show'ers should be penalised. We need to treat out NHS with some respect not as a plaything - otherwise we all suffer
It's ok mate if you don't mind working these days but 0600 am till 2100 on many occasions weekends and bank holidays It gets to you after a while Never mind them dats are past now
Like i say it was before i had kids and i had nothing to be missing out on, never bothered me which days i got off really. Be different now.
