With our midfield?, they far too weak, disorganised, non creative as it is, maybe with a top quality organiser, somebody like Barry Bannan a few years ago.
pereria kalas baker da silva Paterson smith nagy/ Eliason fammy afobe wells +5 subs to play!!!!.. odowda..weimann ..nagy ..benko … hunt or mix and match for start
Paterson in a midfield 3?, my wife can tackle harder than him and she has had 4 knee replacements (long story). I know what Paterson can occasionally bring to the party, but LJ was more combative in midfield than Paterson and boy that is really saying something.
They both were/are gutless, both pull out of 50/50's and quite often 60/40 in their favour, unless Paterson is playing well upfront it's like playing with 10 men. Again this is only my opinion. However if you do want to play Paterson and Eliasson with a front 3, then you are going to need 2 incredibly fit, talented and organised/disciplined midfielders and we don't got them players at our club.
I'm not sure I can say LJ was combative and ,certainly not good in the air but what he did have was a footballing brain, creating and delivering decent balls, quite often through the eye of a needle type passes, also creating space...unfortunately with players around him, not on the same wavelength.. If we had a player with LJ's footballing brain along with field leadership, I believe we would be a much better side.
I said in my opinion he was more combative than Paterson, not combative, both were/are gutless and both lightweight, but being slightly more combative is in no way a compliment. My point is our midfield is already weak enough, non creative and totally disorganised, it needs a total revamp and has done since before and since LJ arrived. Maybe Walsh and Morrell will be the answer, if of course they get a chance.
Wasn't having a go at you Jiffie, just coming back to RP's usual sarcasm towards LJ..but was also stating what his positives brought to the game..
No problem at all. I was never a fan of LJ as a player. As a manager I can see what he is trying to achieve but my problem is during his 3 full seasons, as I have said in previous posts you can set your calendar by what happens. August to the end of December generally great. January to April mainly crap performances and results and punctuated in March by the identity speech and the bringing back of the players that 'he can trust', the same players that he lost trust in earlier in the season and finally an improvement up until the end of the season. My main problem is that as a season ticket holder, who has a long distance to travel to home games and at great cost, our home form for the past 2 seasons has been generally uninspiring and this season to me we are set up not to lose at home, something that hasn't worked and is particularly galling when we have created so little, the entertainment is generally poor. I sit with long standing friends, after the last home game, in the pub after the game talk about renewing our season tickets was discussed and the general consensus is, what else would we do on Saturdays?, it gets out of the house and we can have a good drink, I live in a village with 3 pubs, I can get pissed without the stress, but I have renewed.
shame how people can often only see one side of something ….. its all out there and we have lock down … to do an analytic assement of LJ would not appease the few doubters of his abilities … for instance if we won more games with him playing … scored more assists [ direct indirect ] … etc they would still say … he brought nothing to the table or was outright crap …. so no point in spending an hour or so compiling it ….
On the other hand, we could be in an entertaining relegation dog fight as apposed to sitting pretty in 7th...Sometimes progression and entertainment doesn't go hand in hand...but I also understand your point of view..
Firstly my overriding view will always be (unlike some fans) whoever is appointed manager or any player signed, I will always judge them on what I witness over a period of time and not on any pre conceived ideas or rumours, secondly I want anybody in any capacity to succeed at BCFC (again unlike some fans that included Tony Pulis) and when we signed LJ I was impressed with the highlights that I had seen prior to his signing. However I was never overly impressed by what I saw of him as a player over a long period of time, that is my honest opinion. Again I had no preconceived ideas about him as a manager, his record at Oldham and Barnsley was ok, although the evidence did show the roller coaster type of results followed him, as they have with us. But with us I thought that with the step up and with the increased budget and ambition + the fact that he obviously knew the club and the owner well, that it might be a better vehicle to perhaps take his methods onwards. My feeling is this ATM, I would give him next season but hope that if that season shows no change from the past 3 that his position be reviewed. I don't see myself as a hater but as a realist, I want him to succeed. I don't get the idea that if you criticise on the evidence of what you have witnessed that you must be a hater.
That disinfectant is really affecting your memory. Eye of the needle passing . Creating space - can't argue with this one - Junior would run anywhere not to make a tackle. As if he'd play now His father doesn't manage City anymore.
I never said that did I? You can misquote me if it makes you feel better RP ....do you work for the BBC by any chance? my words "If we had a player with LJ's footballing brain along with field leadership, I believe we would be a much better side."
So I've misquoted you? Have another look 1For at your comment and take a look at my specific reply. Others can decide.
are they really weak or are they just disorganised?? don't see a lot of the better teams putting it about in midfield. work hard yes but thats different to weak.
1 for you have to remember when negative or single track opinions run out of ideas they get derailed and when nothing appears to fit what they think it means to them, to fit with the answer they need they become opposites or fall back on negative aspects of their belief
Both, in which of the 11 games at home where we have failed to win, have we ever dominated the midfield? Out of the teams above us that we have so far played that are above us, which is 5 we have amassed a miserable 2 points total. From the teams below us where we have failed to win, which is 6 we have amassed an equally miserable 3 points total. In all of those games, we were mullered in midfield and 2 of those teams are still fighting relegation, Wigan were a classic example of this, they were the better team on the day and we were lucky to take a point. We are weak in midfield, physically, mentally and technically. Eliasson who we should have built the midfield around starting 2 years ago is the only reliable midfielder when it comes to creating and LJ consistently takes him off in favour of the likes of Paterson who is as weak a midfielder as you will find anywhere in the championship (but for balance occasionally has his moments) and even Odowda who has been shocking since signing his new contract, Nagy after a good start has been poor, Massengo is a talent of that there is no doubt but is at the moment lightweight, Rowe has never really been given a proper chance in midfield, Henrickson seems to have fallen foul of LJ (that seems to be a recurring theme) and then we come to Palmer another player who has fallen foul of LJ but even with his lack of game time is along with Wiemann our 3rd highest assist maker on 3, our 2nd is Hunt on 5 who is great going forward but poor defensively. Palmer has more assists so far this season than Paterson and Odowda combined and he has hardly played, Williams, Dasilva and Rowe all have more assists than the 2 of them, Massengo has no assists.
probably the reason why didn't win! please define weak assists .. there are 2 ways to look at assists [ I think last summer, when incapacitated I did a statistic exercise [ keep the brain active! ] on what or who did an assist ] although far from being a full 20 game x 90 it was about 18 x ?? mins of highlights ...now that gives you all the goals and the build up. THE SIMPLE way to define assist is the one who passes the ball to the goal scorer. I have been looking for the xcel sheet with the results cant find it, if I do will resurrect it. The interesting bit was that the number of assists last person defined the obvious … the less obvious was there was 3 players who did more assists to a wider range of players who actually get credited for the greater number of final passes. final pass winners top 3 was beaten or equalled by the providers of the pass to the final pass! [ there was also a total equal to the second best if memory serves of what … rebound/ opposition ] for example player A gets credit for ASSIST...goal 1 goal 2 player B gets CREDIT …. GOAL 3 player C is CREDITED … however Player A and C were given the ball by player D and player B got it from player E .. SO WHO REALLY did the most assists?
