Steve Bruce is safe in his job but I wonder if The allams are prepared to back him further with a loan signing?

We're missing some of our best defenders through injury so it's to be expected we're not as good as last season, and love him or hate him we are also missing our top scorer (Fryatt), so even if Bruce keeps faith in Simpson we don't have a lot of attacking options on the bench.

Are things much worse, we are one point behind this stage last season with a goal difference 2 better, and I've enjoyed the games a lot more (even the losses).

For all those Barmby fans out there - remember he lost 5 on the bounce last March/April before commenting on Bruce losing 3.

Why not ? Bruce has done very good business overall in the summer. He got Faye and Aluko for nowt. Now if we had signed Faye and Proschwitz for nowt and paid £2.5m for Aluko who would have complained about that ? Nobody.

With the injuries taking over again SB has no option. Fryatt maybe be ready for Ipswich but he is a forward.

Jack Hobbs is at least 2 months away and James Chester and Alex Bruce could be 3 weeks at least ? Thankfully the International Break has come at the right time for a change. But time to give Liam Cooper a spot on saturday. Faye looks like he needs a break and cannot play sat-tues-sat. imo. Faye is a sat - sat player now.

With many FATS still available who knows who will be next to arrive @ the KC.

I was/am still a Nick Barmby fan But the football we are playing this season is light years ahead of last season under Pearson and Barmby.

I think the Allams will back Bruce with an emergency loan but I would think they will do it begrudgingly

Well the long term injured are covered by insurnace so its not a massive hit on the wage bill. Short term until Hobbs is back. Faye needs a break and Chester and Bruce jnr could be longer out than Ipswich. With only Liam Cooper left fit what choice do they have ?

I said exactly the same. Liverpool went through the same thing where if they'd paid £30m for Suarez and £17 for Carroll (or whatever the figures were) nobody wouldve batted an eyelid.

Why begrudgingly? You can't help picking up injuries during the season. It's very unlucky to pick up a long term injury to Hobbs, then to have Chester and Bruce pick up injuries at the same time.

If they are true to their word that their aim is for the club to get promotion then surely they'll think it's necessary?

I don't get this point as we did pay 2.6m for Proschwitz and nothing for Aluko. We could have still secured Aluko's services and not spent the money on Nick. To say it's OK we wasted 2.6m because we saved it on Aluko's signing is a bit of a strange way to look at it.

They will think its necessary because Bruce will tell them it is (and I agree) but they come across as shrewd businessmen and will not go way over the budget they set for the season. An emergency loan now may have an impact on our January dealings?

Surely all chairmen (Pompey aside) are shrewd businessmen?

I thought that the Allams said that there was no transfer budget, but they would look at each proposed transfer on merit?

Excellent post here Fosse <ok> It's worth noting that there are no run away teams at the top this season. At present I couldn't pick a team as a clear favourite to win the league. It's going to be a very close season with plenty of twists and turns along the way for every team. We've shown we're a good side under Bruce and we've played some of the best football we've seen since the early premier league days, we just need to iron out these silly mistakes which are costing us in games.

We need a bit more squad depth if we are to be serious about promotion

For me Liam Cooper has to play against the Wendies as i dont see Faye having another game in him until he gets a rest. Paul Mckenna should come in for Oli on saturday. Both have points to prove and saturday is the time to do it imo. Especially Cooper.

Correct. Far too many are knocking Proschwitz at the moment. Give the man a chance, ffs. It is so like when Turner first arrived and Delaney for that matter. Some need time. Nick looks like that he will.

I am still trying to understand why some fans think its been a waste of money actually ?

Now ^^^ this i do agree with. After last nights 18 matchday squad w eonly had Liam Cooper - Conor Townsend - Elden Jakupovic and Jamie Devitt who could be used in the championship. With Jack Hobbs and Tom Cairney long term injuries and Matty Fryatt - James Chester and Alex Bruce at least 3 weeks away, we only have 27 players when everyone is fit.
To cover injuries and suspensions that will kick in for all club by the half way point you need a squad of 30 at least imo.

There is no point in this thread at all, Steve Bruce is safer in his job than pretty much any manager in the league, and rightly so after 9 games and us playing the way we are, he is not to blame for individual errors and injuries.
