...except for the fact that things don't appear to be improving. To coin a phrase made popular by the recession, we're flatlining. Taking away the disappointment of those results, how easy is it to be optimistic of a top four finish this moment in time? It isn't. That's why people are talking the way they are. It's out of the fans' control, we're not the ones kicking the ball. We say what we see.

Yeah, right now we have a chance - but it's irritating to know that with the **** start Arsenal had we've let our own fortunes slide and now they're level on points. A one man team they may be, but he's clawed them out of the abyss. They may as well change their name to Van Persie. As for Newcastle they are where they are because they beat the little boys, the teams WE should be beating and who we're floundering against. That's our own fault.

How realistic? Unrealistic to be honest. Unless we start to sort our heads out and put the ball in the net 'cos for all the beautiful football it's the goals that count.

And I'm sorry but we're not scoring enough of them. Where the **** are they going to come from in the future? From Suarez, yes, and...?

It's not negative it's saying what ya see. Does not matter how many chances you get in a game if you can't stick them in the net. LFC at the moment very very poor. Wont be long and peolpe will be calling for kk's head

    But is it the truth?

Chelsea are not exactly doing great, and Spurs have their weaknesses.

We are playing good football and creating good chances. The thing that needs fixing is converting those chances, but a couple of good scoring games (even a 2-0 and a 1-0 )Both wins)) and it could do a lot.

Things can change fast in football.

And if any one starts calling for Kenny to be sacked they are not a true fan. He has done plenty of good and needs time.

I took Alex Ferguson 5 years to do any thing really special with United. These days a manager barely gets a chance if they take 2 years. People seriously need to get over wanting managers sacked. Its ridiculous.

Excellent point,Kuyt rarely plays, Maxi never plays,Raul got the hump after missing the 1st 2 games - gesture 2 the bench/Kenny after creating goal at the emirates, when coming on as sub ,remember that ( Hendo n Adam played ).Shelvey loaned

Ur right the men who got him the job never play

And as wishi insinuated,Id prefer to tell it like it is rather , than live in some dream world that everything is ok and will change , when it isnt

Chances need to be scored. Not worth having 20 chances and scoring none. All it takes is the other team having one good chance and scoring. We lose

Meireles wanted to leave remembered. He forced the transfer.

    Kuyt plays plenty.

I seriously think you guys are clutching at straws here. You are blaming for the sake of blaming when its not Dalglish's fault.

I think you should just calm down and focus on supporting your team.

Yes, but you cant just blaming it on the guys not scoring the chances. Maybe the people creting the chances need to play to the men in the boxes strengths more.

But any way, a few goals, a boosted of confidence and we can move on. I'm not feeling negative and I dont see why you should be.

Well, I'm not calling for him to be sacked, that'd be daft. It's only November, and 6th isn't bad.

4th would've been preferable at this stage had we won those stupid matches, still...

BUT there are issues to be ironed out and if we have ANY CHANCE WHATSOEVER of a top 4 finish THIS season they MUST be resolved now, that you must allow.

Chelsea, Spurs, Newcastle and Arsenal can go up in smoke for all I care. We have to put our own house in order before we rub our hands and gleefully wish they slip up.

With regard to the Ferguson example, let's get this straight: he was 40 odd when he took that job 25 years ago. Hodgson was in his 60s, and so, I'm afraid, is Kenny. But the latter is far, far superior to the former in calibre and I believe he deserves the time, whereas Hodgson was a plank and didn't deserve the time of day.

This season the players are at fault IMO. They're letting Kenny down and they're letting us down. End of.

Meireles did want to leave your right, he was annoyed after his contract wasnt looked as promised when he signed, earning half as much as 21/22 yo players such as Hendo n Carroll.

But what broke the camels back was being left out for the early games, when he was probably our 3rd best player last year, after Lucas n Reina.

Which is why there was that negative jesture at Dalglish when coming on as sub,and creating the goals at Arsenal.Which Dalglish didnt like. And looking at it now after seeing the performances of Adam,Hendo n Downing, you can see why he had the hump, and wanted to leave.

Because he was being left out in favour of players who were not as good as him, being payed more than double him, with 50 less international caps than him,and being played instaed of him.Kenny created this situation!!!!!!

In question to the OP,before this season started i was(like most reds)happy to see Kenny back at the helm,it was always going to take time to regain our regular top 4 status and given the difficulties our club had been through and the deadwood in the squad i was optimistic of at least consolidating last seasons finishing position.
I was/am also hoping for an improvement on our finishing position last season due to our signings and our finishing last season with decent form,i never thought we would be good enough to win the title but felt we have a decent chance of finishing 4th,however this season Newcastle are in the mix along with the vastly improved City plus Utd,Chelsea,Spurs,us and the improving Arsenal.

    Champions either City or Utd
    2nd..........either Utd or Chelsea
    3rd,4th,5th....either Chelsea or,Us,Spurs,Newcastle,Arsenal.

Only 11 games gone and well to early to throw the towel in but if we finish in the top 5 i'll be happy.

Furthermore, here's the difference between Kenny and Hodgson. Hodgson thought our results were fair last season, Kenny's seriously pissed off. I can see certain players being dropped before long if they don't pull their knickers up.

This I totally agree with......however, there's a lot on here that I don't agree with.

    • Are we playing better football - yes
    • Are we creating many more chances - yes
    • Are we taking them - No (need to resolve this)
    • Had we taken 10% more of the chances created would we have won every game - probably all but Spurs....
    • Are we leaking the occasional daft goal - yes (need to resolve this)
    • Are we complacent at times - yes vs Spurs & Swansea
    • Are we a better team than last year - yes
    • Have we a better, deeper squad than last year - yes
    • Have we made real progress - yes
    • Are we still in the chance of a 4th place finish - very much so!
    • Is 4th a nailed on certainty - No, it never has been and anyone believing so needs head testing ;-)
    [/LIST]

Look, I hate the fact that we are not finishing teams off too but this is all part of a learning curve for a new team....sure we've dropped points, everyone bar City have ffs - but when was the last time we lost?

Please, a sense of realism is called for; we do know our football after all....don't we?

Is our team better than last year.

You think we are playin better now than we where between Feb n May last season. You must be watchin a different game.

We were playin Maxi,Lucas,Kuyt,Raul,Suarez,Spearing as the front 6 then, the football was light years better than anythin we have played so far this season, ball on the floor pass n move, excellent movement

The players who got Kenny the job , he has disgarded, for HIS signings who have been rubbish and overpriced in the main

With a 100m spend and no european football, fourth is very achievable for an experienced managet
