Too tight to call if we make IMO but of course i hope we do
I am certain that other results will influence the three who drop because there are more team involved … therefore more results to surprise Swords you lovely knob jockey of course we will have to hope some go our way … not over if we get beaten at Hull … We could beat Chelsea Spurs and Arsenal at home
its on again

About the lineup. Think we all had the same feeling when it was announced. I actually said to a mate of mine that we would lose, BUT that it reminded me of the feeling I had in our first season back in the Premier League when we were going to play Everton away. Football is a funny old game and it doesn't always play out the way you think.

Don't think anyone gave that side a chance back then either.

Application and a game plan can get you very far.

That makes very little logical sense and you know it!
Err - we could lose all our remaining games but still stay up if the three below us lose all theirs and Villa lose by the same or more goals than us. If we win all our remaining games and Villa win all of theirs but by the same or less goals than us we stay up. In the more likely circumstance of something in between we rely on 3 other teams having a net worse record than us over the remaining games, how much worse depends on how many points they have now.

Tedious definitely, but logical, at least in my world.

Or, the way I see it, we won't be relying on any teams having a net worse record than us, we'll be relying on ourselves to have a net better record than 3 other Clubs.

It just depends which way you look at it. You could say Chelsea are relying on 19 teams having a net worse record than themselves to win the league. If we stay up it will be because we deserve to, IE we're better than 3 PL teams. It can't be the case every season that teams stay up on the whims of other Clubs. Its because they themselves have amassed more points than 3 of their rivals.

In a way though, we're both right and we're both saying the same thing. Just from opposite angles

Off course we are fickle, show me a fan of any club who isn't, it's the nature of the beast.

I will admit to posting on the match day thread that my time would be probably better served watching Eastenders than the R's as I couldn't see us scoring with that ponderous midfield and OBZ ploughing a lonely furrow up front on his own, but boy was I wrong, the fluid play of the first half was a joy to watch when I could get the stream to work.

Although it was not good for the nerves the 2nd half was played out well, sure they had chances, what team at home does not create chances, but the desire was there to keep them out, it was a very satisfying performance and a stylish one to boot.

As it stands at the moment as we are 17th we only have to match the results of the 3 teams below us to stay up, if we drop into the relegation zone again we have to better the results of the team in 17th place to stay up......simples

I was delighted with the performance but on another day, or against a better team, we would have conceded at least one. You said so yourself on the Sunderland board, claiming a draw would have been a fair result - I don't agree with that, we played much better football than them. This will be a real struggle, the margins are very fine and we will rely on other teams failing, as Col has always said.

Probably mate, the two games I missed!

You lucky man.... the fact we played really well and got precious little were like ricin tipped daggers through the eyeballs....

And Junior mishit the cross at Wembley (went straight to Koegh) from which Bobby scored a worldie, to get us here in the first place My point exactly you earn your won luck

Yes indeed, perseverance is definitely required, and on both occasions Bobby was there in the middle and happy to oblige with thundering left & right foot volleys.

As the team was announced for Sunderland there was fairly common ground that everybody slated the selection. On here, on Twitter, other forums we didn't stand a chance and would be hopeless.
Post match Ramsey is the messiah and should be given the job, he's the saviour and the way forward. Don't get me wrong there was a massive improvement in our play and how we took the game to them.

However but for a couple of stunning saves by Green, an unmarked miss by Defoe etc we would be moaning about it being the same story as the rest of the season. Where was the marking, who's sorting out the defence etc

This game was no different to Liverpool at home where we demolished them flying out of the blocks other than Sunderlsnd didn't take their chances which we presented.

I'm still worried for is but more optimistic and s little bit excited that we can now push on. At least we attacked away from home!
I don't like it when people come out and call others fickle. Why does it matter to you? People see what they see. Let them be.

Touchy mate!! I wasnt calling anyone fickle, I was posing a question to provoke some thought. I was in the same boat as many, I questioned the selection but was heartened by the way we took the game to them. RTID probably summarised it best in my view. It's about a little bit of luck going our way and but for small margins our fears about the selection would have been proven right.

I'm hopeful going forward and excited at a better brand of football to watch but am under no illusion it will be a battle to stay up!

That's all well and good, 74, but if you're to persist with that risky logic, you would then have to say that but for small margins, Redknapp's dodgy selections would also have been proven right in a number of tight games. Its a precarious position you're taking, '74, because when you use rationale like that it sets a precedent that has to be followed into all sorts of dark places, resulting in often uncomfortable conclusions.

I think you'd be on much firmer ground if you went with the "you make your own luck - good and bad - in this game" line. And if you're "lucky" in one game, you'll sure as hell be "unlucky" in another.

I don't disagree, you do make your own luck and that attacking mentality was something we rarely saw from HR especially away from home. It's still small margins and had Wikham buried his unmarked header at 1-0 after Fer hit the post the players reaction would have been very interesting. We'll never know but it's small margins that are dictating results......

Very uplifting performance IMO, we may just have a chance if we can maintain the intensity of our pressing game. I notice Burnley play that type of high-tempo game which can make up for deficiencies in quality and give you a fighting chance.

The jury's still out on whether we can stay up but even if we don't I'd rather see the type of 100% performance we had on Tuesday than the meek surrender of Harry's team.

Always thought the best form of defence is attack, particularly when you've got no defence...

****ing hell, the Socrates of Leinster is working the logic button today.:emoticon-0142-happy

That must be as close to analysis that Swords has ever posted......Socrates of Leinster....funniest line I've heard for a long time....<laugh>

Fickle there hasn't been a more apt word for how we have become

We used to have songs for a lot more players than we do now

Both transfer windows for QPR this year has seen Mummy going to Tescos .... Present mummy I have been good

Dave the decorator to Loic Remy
Rio Ferdinand plays for us
We want new young stars
We have a overpriced car auction boot sale on our pitch

All we can think of is when will SWP leave or how bad or fat our French speaking foreigners are

Fickle yes we are

I want our soul back and could be it will happen under Chris

Come on lads

You could also look at it from the point of view that when you play anyone away, or home for that matter, they will have chances. If they fail to score, you've done your job, whether that be down to goal keeping heroics, poor finishing, last ditch tackling. It's part of the game. We did what we needed to do on Tuesday and have reaped the reward. The thing that pleased me most, other than greens 3 outstanding saves (goal keepers union), was the desire to put them under pressure deep in their defensive third. Long time since we've seen that away from LR and it changes the game. We needed that win and that performance and we got it and I reckon it will do team confidence no end of good.

It's this view point that put me firmly in the camp of it wasn't luck in the play off final. Just a great defensive display that meant when we got our chance it was enough to win. Just wish it hadn't been such an emotional roller-coaster by happening so late in the game. My heart nearly gave out it was thumping so hard.

Bump!!

One game where some luck went our way doesn't make a season! Youth being exposed, Chilean internationals can't get in the team, is Ramsey still the messiah?!
