Wouldn't go as far to smack her but I'd like to tell her what I think of her, she looks like the Crazy Frog too. It amazes me how many talentless people are in the position to give advice in glorified Karaoke and Talent competitions, most being people who had a little success in the manufactured pop industry or the people who market them. 95% Of people in the entertainment industry go through stage schools in the London/Home County area or have contacts in high places.

I thought we were going to avoid the Maggie thing but seeing as there have now been a dozen or so posts now I do intend to have my say.
The parliamentary debacle yesterday was brought about by Government's impatience. What Glenda Jackson said was not vile but perhaps better left until later. However she isn't two faced like half the Tories who couldn't wait to see the back of her but now can't wait to jump on the bandwagon.
My despising of her and her cronies like Tebbit, was because she always believed the means justified the end. The Falklands conflict was a pointlees and costly, certainly in human sacrifice, exercise just so she could prove she had bollocks like a man. Believe me, and history backs this up, that crisis was so close to going calamatously wrong, she would have been out of office and confined to history as yet another bad leader.
Her relentless pursuit of the unions could have been achieved through the legal system but she wanted to take the strap to a movement that wasn't personified by megalomaniacs like Scargill but more like the guys I worked with who were all contributing a Tenner a week towards the strike and we all chipped in £50 for kids presents at Christmas. That is what unionism is about, collective concern for people in the same boat. But Maggie wanted to hurt us all and she would used everything a t her disposal to achieve that. And what has she really achieved. She and her doctrine have disenfranchised so many people that many MOR people are now more militant than they ever were.
And privatisation has really worked hasn't it. It has legalised theft. Energy, Water, Railways are worse now than ever under state control and twice the cost. Within a year, most people who bought shares during privatisation had sold them to multi nationals for a few quid profit. She made landowners overnight of millions by virtually giving them their council homes while those of us trying to buy ours were paying 15% interest on our mortgages. That's a nice big lobby to vote for you next election.
And unforgivable was her bolstering of the apartheid government in South Africa and denial of Nelson Mandela, now he really does deserve the laurel leaves.
And she did not bring an end to the Soviet state. They did that themselves and people like Walesa and their brave supporters brought about the end. And of course the Soviets inability to even feed their people in Russia let alone all the satellites.
And when the millions spent on the funeral of someone who never achieved 50% are totalled up, I hope the ones who decided to cut back on benefits for ALL rather than just sensibly take them away from the scroungers and deadbeats, will feel they are governing the country properly.

Well I am a Labour man but I can see the good she done.

Falklands War, well I disagree, you can't just allow other countries to come along and take things off you. You don't know how the perception changed our standing in the World at the time if we'd have just let them take it. For me, that is the only reason for an army, to protect yourself.

The militant Unionist that absolutely held this country to ransom have been killed off, they, and there selfish reasoning killed themselves with a gun pointed at the Government. The collective concern was just anti social to the rest of the country who suffered as a result. If you want to blame anyone blame the people like Scargill, I don't see how Thatcher had any choice.

Privatisation has its ups and downs, I heard on the radio how you had to wait weeks to buy a gas heater because it was so badly run. I don't think anyone can doubt that whilst the rampant left were at there most powerful, the rest of the country was was never more miserable during peace time.

The rest of the stuff I don't know about, whilst most of the stuff about her I really didn't like. The breaking of the Unionists just had to be done, they were out of control and basically everyone had enough of them. If people were happy with them ruining the country they would have won, simple as that. Its Democracy.

<applause> Great Post Carrabuh as Dave puts it Hammer, nail, head!

I think Redruth should explain why the Falklands was a pointless exercise to the families of 255 service men and women who lost their lives defending freedom!

No that's not the point, it's not to be supported for that reason, you can't just support something because people died for that cause.

I only agree with it because I agree with the reasons for doing it. Not because of loyalty to those who died.

Dave, ignore Delia on this please, whilst I agree a football forum is not the place for politics, nobody is talking football elsewhere and the the whole Thatcher thing has been in the news with Whelan et al asking for football to remember her. Which is a bonkers idea.

For the record, I agree with carrabuh about leaving the thread up, providing we all make our point with awareness of other people's point of view!

Where is Redruth? and the rest of you, I think this could be interesting.

Talking about a national polarizing figure on a discussion forum is a good source, plus I might learn something.

For me, and I'm not a massive Tory, she was the pm when I was growing up and I respect her because of that
She took on the argies, they invaded our territor, not on
She took on the unions who had too much power
Crikey, let's not forget the ira who were bombing the crap out of us. The Brighton bomb was particularly poignant
Without some of her policies, and I appreciate a lot of communities suffered as Gorleston girl points out from first hand experience, I think we might be f@@ked economically. Look at France, they are still struggling with lack of economic reform

Carabuh Of course but I was only using just one example of many that I could use. If Michael Foot had been elected in 1983 we would be truly fecked by now. <ok>

I don't know much about Foot to be honest.

I think Kinnock got a raw deal however, he seemed a genuine man, bit of a buffoon maybe but he always seemed to have good intentions.

Thatcher apparently hated large corporations just as much as large goverment, she preferred small businesses where individuals made the difference. I think a lot of people, especially given the recent Banking episode appreciate that sentiment now.

Having not experienced the effect she had on our country, and not being the most knowledgeable on this topic. I won't pass comment on her.

Although I will say I find the celebrations of her death sickening.

I can understand it to be honest, I think she was a nasty piece of work at times, to much political philosophy gets in the way eventually. At the start they are pulling against the opposite direction, by the end they are still pulling but from the same direction. This country (I think) wants to remain in the middle.

This sums up my position perfectly. A lot of my friends weren't born when Thatcher was in power, but several of them seen keen to dance on the grave of someone they never experienced. The time to celebrate was when she lost power, not when people have just lost a mother and grandmother.

Edit: And for the record, I'm with Dave that there's no point shutting off this thread, it's big news and people want somewhere to talk about it. General Chat is generally a mess on here, and people want to discuss it with the people they normally do. It's not like we've a lot else to discuss before the match.

If she was that bad, don't vote her in 3 times in a row. That's the beauty of democracy, if enough of you want a change then you get it!
I'm with Carrabuh on the Falklands. Respect the memory of those who died but the real point here is Britain couldn't just sit back and let Argentina take the territory.

Even though I was born in the year the Falklands War happened, we had no choice but to go to war, we would have been an absolute laughing stock and have zero influence over world politics at the moment if we didn't act back then. I dislike war but I feel very strongly about protecting our territories, I'd hate our country to be seen as weak.

On Thatcher herself I disagree with a lot of her policies because I'm not Tory and at times I think she could of been a lot less vicious but at the same time she made us into one of the leading service industries in world.

Totally agree about peoples opinions on the Street parties they are an absolute disgrace, I read an article on Vice Magazines website about the Brixton one, half the people in attendance were 18 year old crusties who had never lived under her government along with your usual weirdo's, hardly any Black people in sight and with the suss laws at the time of the riots they were the ones who had any genuine grievance with her policies.
