I don't like Evans at all but I disagree about the amount of emphasis put into the word "motivation". At some point, players need to take responsibility. If he is saying we don't have any really good players at this level then it really is down to the players to prove him wrong. From the games I have seen this season, particularly the last few, I have often thought to myself there is a distinct lack of effort. Thats just not excusable as a professional footballer, regardless of whether your manager is a great motivator or not. These players here really should be fighting for their careers currently, not just as Leeds players but as professional footballers in general. But then you have to also say that tactically we are very poor, thats down to Evans. Team choice we are incredibly poor, thats down to Evans (or Cellino if you want to believe that). The whole club seems to have just given up since we ended our unbeaten run under Rosler from the start of the season. There was a certain fight there before.
I sort of agree with you Josh, but I can say with conviction that there has been effort in all the games I've seen (as in headless chickens), however what I haven't seen for a few years now is commitment. The difference being that commitment means going that extra mile - taking a chance of getting hurt or booked or whatever it takes. The last player I remember being fully committed on a consistent basis was Michael Brown. Boy, did he have his critics, but you could bet that when he played, he released other midfielders to express themselves - plus he provided the security of that extra layer of defence. Now, all of our midfielders are trying to express themselves, usually at the same time, and neglecting the defensive aspects of their game. I've written about this before, and stated that IMO, we really only have young, inexperienced Phillips who has the necessary discipline. We have great need of a snarling, barsteward destroyer that will link our team together. Buggered if I know who that is, tbh.
Yea I do agree, we are lacking those sort of players. But at the same time, although we weren't winning games, earlier this season it felt like the players genuinely believed they weren't gonna get beaten. Now its like its a chore to show up to games, they just wanna get it out the way for another week.
