It will not be the transfer fee that will be the problem or be the clincher of this move - it will be the wages If he came to Saints he probably could expect £16-20k a week, West Ham probably £20-30k and low level prem teams £30k+ and any of the topsix or eight clubs? Whatever he wants! He will go to the club who will pay him the most, so I think the chances of him gracing SMS is slim regardless of his purchase price
It's a shame he chose Scotland over England as he would probably play for England in a couple of years and be in the U21s right now
Indeed. I'd still have Sharp over him, and I still wouldn't pay more than £3.5 million for him. (Granted that wouldn't be enough to get him, as I really think £6 million will be what Hudders will demand, but I don't want us being held to ransom and I don't want Cortese paying stupid money).
Where exactly is all this money comming from I wonder? It wasn't so long ago when we nearly went under and we are still making a loss and actually are in debt at the moment to the leibherr estate, fair enough its probably no interest and I dont doubt there commitment but we shouldnt be spending more than we make and no way are we making millions of pounds profit before you even take into account the excess wages. Also you can just as good a player if not better for a fraction of the cost if you look abroad, look at Lee.
Without outside investment, we wouldn't be signing anyone. Very few clubs turn a profit these days with wages being what they are.
We dont but an international player scoring goals in this country would have cost alot more another example Henandez(sp?) cost 6mil, Carrol 35mil.
when you think that Andy Carrol was bought for £35mill, who is essentially a Championship striker who had a great season in the ccc who had a decent start to the season you've got to value Rhodes at £7-9 million
£35m for Carroll was mental even by today's standards. I'm sure someone will take a punt on Rhodes as young, homegrown goalscorers don't come cheap. He may be playing in L1, but players don't score that many there by accident. None of our strikers have matched his record so far.
Yeh he does look like a great prospect I'm just saying that just because he's playing in England and is British has immeadiatly massively added to the asking price and that if you look at little further afield you can find great bargains.
Yes but when we get to the premiership we need players trained in england. As people now who play football manager. you need english players you can't play a foreign team.
I wouldn't pay anymore than £3 million and that seems a bit excessive for a league 1 player. I think that people are getting a little carried away with what they saw last night. He showed some quality movement against a poor defence, with some good service and took his opportunities well. To score five goals in a game is an amazing feat but I didn't see anything particularly outstanding in anything that he did, that would lead me to believe he is ready to step up to Premiership level. He definitely has something about him but I would say it would be in his best interest to stay at Huddersfield. He still has a lot to learn and would benefit from trying get to the Championship with them. I think a big premiership move now would be to soon for him, he has a good manager looking after him, so why not stay for a year or two. If he is good enough then this opportunity will come around again. Don't get me wrong I do like the look of him but not at the prices being talked about. You may get a top Premiership club take a chance with a large bid but we are not yet in a position to take these kind of risks. Either way good luck to him.
