Thought this was deserving of its own thread as it could very well be a world record transfer for a defender and Saints are involved, but if not then Mods just close it down. Simple question, how much will we get when VVD leaves next month? I know that the fee will most likely be undisclosed so whoever is right can't be running around shouting I Told You So, but usually something gets leaked so the winners will get their satisfaction. FWIW I think it will be around the £55m mark
I have also just realised that I have made the mistake a 6 year old makes when doing stuff like this and included options in 2 of the answers If you think we will get £60m as an example vote for the higher one, ie £60m-70m like Richie has done. Or if a Mod could edit the poll that would be appreciated
more importantly, who will we buy with the 60M? will we buy anyone? will they hang around in the U23s? or actually be quite good and get sold next year?
Done, let me know if it’s not what you wanted! I’m in 2 minds about the fee, it depends if he’s been devalued by his lack of games in the last year but if we get less than £60 million I’ll be disappointed.
I think we'll aim to get close to £60m, bearing in mind he's got a year less on his contract than last summer. If we get a couple of teams going for him, it could push it higher but realistically, I'm expecting mid 50s. That means we'll spend about a Charlie on his replacement, and the rest will get eaten up by wage rises due to contract extensions etc for the rest of the squad if history is anything to go by
Won't be sad to see the back of him now, I think that Jack and Wes could be our CB partnership for quite a while. I've said 60m+ and I would like to see all of the money reinvested in January on other areas of the team with quality and probably a manager too.
I'm with other people saying i would sell for 60m+. Would the people who have said 60m people still sell if we were only offered 50?
I think Saints will sell for what they can get. I'm not expecting Gao to put in lots of dosh just after buying us....we need spends.
It only really matters to me if we reinvest the money - if we're not going to make a solid attempt to strengthen the first team then it's all for nothing anyway. Hopefully north of 50 mills then I suppose.
Would be disappointed with less than 60m Would be a bit disappointed to still see the jerk, week in, week out in PL. Really is time for club to move on and focus on more important matters.
I put down less than 40 because I think the offer will not be straightforward but will have performance bonuses and sell-on clauses, etc. I think the estimated value of the deal will end up being 50-55m.
When the sale goes through, we'll tell them we had already agreed in principle a deal with Chelsea for £48M. We could dine out on this for some time yet........or at least keep the wums at bay!
