    I like that SOS.
However, There's no way we'll see Holtby move on, IMO. What's more likely is that we'll play him even more, hoping he solves our creative issues, rather than signing someone like Eriksen. - despite the fact that we clearly need someone like Eriksen. - it's the cheap option all the time, remember?
From what I've seen of Holtby, he's got to be in a central role. It's hard to make any judgement of him in the No10 role at the moment, because he couldn't be partnered with anyone more incompetent! I also like the idea of him playing deeper too. He's got a bit of "fight" about him and likes to ruffle a few feathers. We need more players like that.

Also think we might need 1 more striker. 2 senior strikers has been a real stuggle this season.

For once I think the striker options being discussed are realistic. Benteke is young and has PL experience. Remy is a better buy at 8m having shown he can play in the PL than he would have been before, and he's still young enough. Leandro, Willian, etc., were never realistic, IMO.

But I don't get all the talk of Shaw. He'll be over-priced, and even if we did get him, we don't tend to put youngsters like that straight into the first team, so I'd be amazed if he was a replacement for Benny.

Most of the youngsters we get though aren't as experienced as Shaw in the top flight. He all ready has about 20+ League apps and can more than hold his own. Over priced he may be but I'd consider it a good investment for a player that looks likely to succeed Ashley Cole.

It would be interesting to see numbers of who prefers which striker. In spells, Defoe has had a lot of stick this season too, and there's people who defend Ade quite a lot.
I think at the moment Defoe would be the favourite, simply because "he's spurs through and through". Yet at other points in the season, people were saying much more negative things!

    Fickle bunch, we are.

    I choose Defoe as:

    1) He has 10 league goals, Ade has 3.
    2) Even though Defoe's been in a drought, he always look more likely to score than when Ade's on the pitch, there's more hunger and desire from Defoe which is what I'm happy to see, if you can tell a players is genuinely trying then I can accept that, Ade looks uninterested 90% of the time.
    3) The money Ade earns for the performances he's delivered has been an utter joke, which really pisses me off, if we pay top dollar I expect Chateuxbriand not ****ing McDonald's big mag.
    4) Defoe wants Spurs, as well as himself to prosper, something I truly respect in players, Ade only cares for £'s in his bank account.

  12. We were quite prepared to play Naughton there, and before that Rose, neither of whom had any PL experience whatsoever - and in Naughtons case have not shown any likelihood of making the grade.

Shaw has already shown himself to possibly have that 'something extra' - but as you point out, that means he will come with a premium. It just depends what that figure is and whether he is deemed worth the investment.

This is the thing I don't get.

If someone has "that bit extra", it's probably quite evident to everyone that they have "that bit extra" (hence they've shown it in performances), so the premium is likely to reflect their quality.

So basically, if someone is good, the chances are you'll have to pay for it.
So ****ing pay for it, or don't expect to have great talent! <laugh>

There are exceptions to the rules when it comes to fees, we all know that, but the market is the market and most of the time it makes sense.

We want a top 4 finish. no one said it was going to be easy. Especially when you do it on a shoestring and give yourself a very difficult challenge!

    Bang on the money there.

Every chairman (bar City's and Chelsea's) seem to expect to be able to constantly buy a Michu. Fact is, players bought for that sort of value more often than not become squad players/ cast offs.

If you want quality you have to pay the big bucks, simples.

  15. Totally agree - you can spend all your time looking for the next bargain or you can trust your scouts and your own instincts and pay up for the best. We appear to always want the best of two worlds that are almost inevitably on different feckin' orbits or in different galaxies!!

Exactly! most never quite have enough and clubs waste millions trying to find that golden nugget.
We've been one of the worst for it over the years. yes, we've spend the odd couple of mill on some dross, which has added up to a fair amount, but it's the other "cheap options" at the top end of the bracket. - By this I mean the 13mill strikers (Pav). A few mill extra and you've got a top draw striker. (well you would have in 2008). Instead it was 13.7mill on an unknown, who guess what? was average.

Now, I know we're keen on Eriksen, and although he's a number 10, he's very creative and kills 2 birds with 1 stone.

can someone please explain why we're being linked to this guy?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Son_Heung-Min

    He's supposedly an attacking midfielder/no10.

Is this guy versatile like Eriksen? or is he just going to be another similar, generic "attacking midfielder" that we already have, competing for a position where there's already plenty of cover?

Most articles I've seen about him refer to him as a striker. I haven't really noticed him watching highlights, mainly because I'm usually on the look out for VDV when Hamburg. I'm not sure what we need is another young attacker anyway, I'd rather we brought in someone with proven quality, if we sign potential that we won't see the best of for a few years then we're not going to get anywhere fast.

    Shirt sales? <laugh>

Seriously though, from what I've seen of Son, which admittedly isn't a hell of a lot, he seems to be quick, tricky, direct, two-footed and a real goal threat.
He seems to be capable of playing out wide or alongside a main striker.
In terms of style, I'd liken him to Bale more than anyone else in our squad, like Dempsey or Sigurdsson, as you seem to be hinting at, Roo.
He scores goals like this, too:

Plus, you can't forget those shirt sales... <whistle>

yeah after I posted that message i suddenly thought "ahhh the shirt sales, of course" <laugh>

that's a hell of a left foot.... perhaps he could be a left winger, which'd therefore keep bale in his favoured central position?

Then I guess we wouldn't have to spend the money on someone like Eriksen!
