I believe Suarez should be playing on the wing in a 4-3-3 formation, and with the addition of a goal scoring midfielder and a goal scoring Striker to play in the center instead of Carroll Gerrard-----Lucas------New Midfielder (Back up of Adam, Spearing, Henderson) Suarez-----New striker------Downing (Back Up Carroll, Kuyt, Bellamy)
We cannot disagree with the stats as they are real. But how we interpret them is open to debate. A conversion rate of 3% is absolutely appalling. I agree with those who say it is more than just bad luck and disagree with the argument that everything is fine and all we need is a bit of luck with the run of the green. It IS a problem. We cannot leave it to sort itself and pray and hope that it will be right. Is it not the manager's job to sort it rather than scratch his head and blame bad luck and bad refereeing? We all could see that we were not converting our chances and we needed new blood in the strike force. Something should have been done in the transfer window and the opportunity got missed ...like the bloody goals.
I think we got precisely what we deserved frankly. if you don't take chances and play sloppy lazy football you get punished. there is no dvidne right to anything in football. rub of the green is just bull. hard work, urngency and a desie in each game to earn your wages is whats required. latest example = glen jonhsons sloppy pass that lead to us losing to west brom... had we been playing chelsea he would not ever make that pass. thats arrogance and stpuidity IMO. rightly punished.
Whilst not disagreeing totally with carl, I do have to point to the way that we have played this season, which apart from goals, has been like a breath of fresh air. Normally, we could have expected Gerrard, Adam and Kuyt to have 'chipped-in' with about 10 goals this season. The lack of these goals and the less than expected return form Suarez and Carroll has put us in the position that we are now. I accept that we cannot solely allow our liking for woodwork to mask our our goalscoring problem but then neither can we ignore it. As those attempts that did hit the woodwork are not even counted as attempts on-target the rest of the statistics become very very skewed. We started the season with high hopes but as work in progress. Despite the fact that all of our hopes have not been realised we have learnt a lot about what will be required to make a valid challenge next season. Yes we do need quality inputs but we do not need to rip up the plan and start again.
