Defeatist attitude be damned. We've never been relegated at the end of our first season in the Premier League. Never. Ever. We survive season 1. Every time. No exceptions. No retreat. No surrender. We are Premier League. I say we are Premier League. 40 points? I'll piss on your 40 points and raise you another 10. 50 points and our best ever finish. You heard it here first.
Ala Lineker threatening to strip down if 'Lesta' won the Prem... how about Hayley McQueen, Kirsty Gallagher and co vowing to strip naked if we stay up...
Talk of galvanising seems off the mark to me... as it seems most of our players would jump ship given the chance. Bruce obviously held this lot together despite the **** before... with no Bruce and currently no recognised manager at all we'll lose that togetherness that probably gained is points over the last few years. We're a circus and it will not benefit us at all. Some good results early on in the season could change this along with many other factors; new owners, good manager, some good signings etc... but if things were to stay as they are now I think we'll get humbled most weeks.
If the Allams fail to sell by the end of the transfer window (and I don't think they will sell) then I think we are down. I cannot see them persuading players to sign with them in charge. Agents will be advising their clients against us (unless it's silly money) and we will have little chance to assemble a viable squad in the first half of the season. Points wise it will be no more than about 5 at Xmas. Then when the window opens in January, new owners or not, it would take some seriously stupid players to sign for us in the hope of staying up, we simply wouldn't be able to attract anyone with ambition. At best, it would be players struggling to get games at other prem teams, and the loan market. I'm predicting about 10 to 15 points at best. The damage is already done. It takes time to sell a football club, we don't have time, we are down. My main hope is that next season, we don't get relegated out of the championship.
I think we'll do a Leicester. Start saving for the champions league. When you look at the state we're currently in, just how **** were Derby that season?
I seem to remember the exact same thread question a few weeks ago???? I said 39 then and I'll stick with it. We are probably at the lowest point of expectations right now. With the Allams out and a good manager in place (and that includes Phelan) I still think we have the nucleus of a squad that can avoid relegation...and finish 15th-16th. The following season should be one of further consolidation in the top tier, on the field and financially.
If we don't make any serious signings then we are only a couple of injuries/buy-out clauses away from complete meltdown. If the Hernandez interview is accurate he wants out and he is our only goal threat, without him we just won't score many at all. Realistically I reckon without a takeover we'll get about 20 but it could quite easily end up being around 10.
I was given the option of 3 points or a Speeding seminar at the Freedom Centre on Preston Rd. Chose the latter obvs.
So no one's going to any game home or away then. What's the point really. We aren't going to win or score, so anyone who goes is just going to sit there & protest, maybe, if they can be arsed. Probably just sit there depressed at all the goals we concede. No hope. Please form an orderly queue at the Humber Bridge people!
