To be fair to the Ox he's been better for Liverpool this season than he has for Arsenal for the last couple of years. He actually bugs me less than many of the favourites - he's still over-rated though.

He's bang on form at the moment. Klopp is using him much better.

    I’d go:

    Pickford

    Walker
    Lascelles
    Maguire
    Sessengnon

    Dier
    Ox

    Rashford
    Alli
    Sterling

    Kane

Pope, Butland, Gomez, Bertrand, Smalling, Henderson, Shelvey, Vardy, Sancho, Lallana, Lingard, Welbeck

I could easily take Loftus-Cheek instead of Shelvey. Or Winks. Or Wilshere. But they are either not playing enough or just not playing well enough. If Wilshere was anywhere near his best he makes Shelvey look average - however when was he last near his best. I really like Cook, Alexander-Arnold, and Dowell from the 21’s too.

I like that team. I've watched quite a bit of cook for a the last couple of years as live in Bournemouth. I like him a lot. Reminds me very much of Wiltshere

I like his aggression. In the summer he was very composed and showed true leadership. He never gave the ball away. He kept it very simple but he was clever.

I like that Dowell a lot. Everton have some great youngsters. Dowell, Gibson, Calvert Lewin, Kenny, Lookman, Davies, Holgate, Onyekuru - it’s scary really.

No none. I always just assume there's a random player we have who plays for a **** country in there though.
Curtis Good nearly made 2014 World Cup.

I remember when Hugo Viana raised his distorted head in the 2006 World Cup, I'd forgot he even existed. Missed a penalty so clearly he hadn't changed a bit.

and I'm not sure about that team above, lacks a bit of spine around CM, it's too attacking.....it's quite sad when we're thinking Shelvey might be the saviour of England. It's like the days when Emilie Heskey was always a shoe-in for the England team despite how rubbish he was playing at the time.

I know what you mean but my thinking was Sessengnon and Walker would be wing backs. Dier would play like he does at Spurs, essentially the libero who steps up from the back three. Alli will come deeper when needed and the front three get a bit of freedom to make the opposition think. Tactically in tournaments we are traditionally too defensive. We always leave with a feeling of never having had a go. We may be vulnerable but I'd back that team to score a lot of goals. Ox seems to be dong well in that role for Liverpool but you could go Shelvey for someone who will sit deeper, or Henderson who will provide more energy.

I mean we can try and bore our way through but I think it'll end up all floppy like ACS at a whore house.

Just seen Wales squad announced. I know Dummett previously stated he didn't want to be considered for international duty due to lack of opportunities but it seems he was approached again and asked not to be considered while he focuses on the run in with us.

Vice Captain for me next season. Love me some Dummy!

Yeah, but honestly what squad would make you jump for joy?

It may not look great, but it makes sense:

The England manager should have a clear vision of a tactic he knows and is comfortable with. It should really be fairly close to the best teams in the Premier League. I wouldn't be looking to replicate what Mourinho is doing, don't have the pure talent to replicate Man City, so it's really Spurs, Liverpool and Chelsea where we should be saying "that's the right kind of model for us".

You'd mainly then go with a 4-3-3 type set-up, they all feature a focal point striker and interchangeable attackers, so you're immediately sorted up front with your first three being Rashford, Kane and Sterling. You need to have replacements for your first choice formation, so you'd need a decent CF, someone who can come in from the left and someone from the right. Vardy, Lingaard, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Welbeck.

Midfield 3 needs a creator and a few workhorses; that's where Alli (Wilshere), Lallana (Livermore) and Henderson (Cook) come in. Dier if you need a more DM or if you go 3 at the back, with Stones, Tarkowski, Maguire and Mawson making up the numbers. Full backs/wing backs take care of themselves.

None of the bigger clubs play with a Shelvey-type, so it makes sense not to include him. Lascelles could have been picked, but he was edged out by Mawson - but Mawson's a left footer, so that also makes sense.

Hart's inclusion is purely for experience, as was said in the presser and has been demonstrated by Nick Pope's call-up.

Dunk, Lascelles are the only ones who can feel upset, but not hugely as the players ahead of them are doing well. Apart from some exciting talent in the u-21's, it's hard to see what Southgate did wrong.

4 Goal keepers for 2 games?

Wiltshere? Welbeck? Ashley Young? Jake Livermore?

The rest of that squad picks itself and I'm sure there are a few regulars there missing out but seriously there are about 5/6 wasted places there where they could be having a look at players like Lacselles and Dunk, Shelvey not so much although i do feel that in a 3 man midfield he offers more than Henderson/Livermore in terms of playing ability but maybe not so much the stamina and energy.

i have little interest in the national team now, and even less interest in stupid ****ing friendlies, it just interrupts proper football. I'll watch the world cup, assuming Boris Johnson doesn't get his wish and we pull out of going, but i'll only watch it cos (a) it's football and it's a stop gap between seasons and (b) mates will be having BBQ's and drinks no doubt and watching it.
