Before my time but the squad around that era would suggest that somebody called Joe Bolton might well be in there?

Joe Bolton was older and already a first team squad member when that pic was taken. Joe was actually 13th man for the 1973 cup final. He had the "job" of keeping Bobby Kerr and another player I can't recall's false teeth in his pocket ready for them to put in if we won and photo's were taken. He apparently got them mixed up and Kerr and the other player weren't amused when they tried to put them in and they didn't fit :emoticon-0102-bigsm

Caught the tube on the way to Wembley that day in 73 and who else but Joe was in the same carriage chatting away with all and sundry, it summed up the amazing buzz of that never to be forgotten day, pure magic.

Funny lad Joe. Was talking to a mate of his from Birtley once and he told me a good one, we used to train at Washington where the OP's team photo was taken. Anyhow Joe loved his greyhounds and raced them. He convinced the groundsman there (who prepared the training pitches to the same standard as Roker Park) to lend him the keys to the training ground so he could let his greyhounds run a decent distance. He didn't tell him he would be taking his Land Rover as well with a winch and the "hare" the dogs run after. Any road up it rained that day and the Land Rover ****ed the pitches up when he drove onto them. Next day headlines in the Chronicle stated "Vandals wreck Sunderland training ground pitches" Joe didn't let on it was him til years later.
