A couple of little redbreasts on here seem to have at last cottoned on to the fact that Nick Higgs has pulled a Master Stroke to get the ground at UWE sorted out. As far as I can see he hasn't made any plans to earn any personal wealth from the project, but just gone about the project in a professional way, sorting out the potential grievances before the important planning permission meeting and looking after the best interests of Bristol Rovers Football Club. Steve Lansdown has clearly seen the benefits of the arrangement and quickly got himself involved in the project through the purchase of the associated Bristol Rugby Club. I hope the redbreasts get there stadium eventually, but their delay is largely due to the lack of forethought brought to bear at the preplanning stages of the planning process. Compromises in those original plans may well have been acceptable, if the potential objectors had been consulted and given an opportunity at a very early stage to discuss possible changes.
Probably we're mistakes made by the club throughout the planning process, but to think that consultation with the VGA mob would have swayed them into sharing the site is totally wrong, as we have known all along the VGA is nothing but a scam to stop the stadium at any cost. Cost which you and I as taxpayers are picking up.
Two points in reply. If your site's planning team had been on the ball, the cock up over the 'green field concession' would not have been made which allowed that lot to sustain their argument. I am also given to understand on good authority that one of the so called dog walker protesters; a) doesn't own a dog and b) lives in Yate and uses his mothers south Bristol address to maintain the validity of his objections
Ever heard of corporation tax??? (obviously not) And what about the hundreds of jobs he has created? All of his employees pay tax. Wow you really are a thick ****, SL has paid more tax than you ever will. Chump Also, I know gash eds can't count but that is 5 words.
'SL has paid more tax than you ever will.' Pro rata possibly not...and what a silly assumption/presumption to make. Your language is becoming offensive..a true sign of someone losing an argument!
look who is on the list...... http://appointmetotheboard.com/amttb-rich-list.htm i like the drop down menu under the title 'Quickly find your favourite tax avoider.' step forward steve pantsdown. also who cares if he has provided jobs? who cares if his employees pay tax? does this mean he exempt from paying his full taxes? dont be so stupid im feeling the pressures (or the pinch as the link says) and i cant just jump up and move to guernsey. instead im trying to support my wife and kids by making big changes to keep my head above water. its unfair the rich can piss off and avoid paying what should be paid while those who are struggling have to continue to struggle due to the twats like pantsdown. and you got the cheek to P49 chump... you need to live in the real world and get your head out your arse long enough and realise your pantsdown is doing what many others have done which is crippling this country. chump.
Well said CJS. Hey P49 - you really touched a raw nerve with Delboy, talk about a reaction. Lansdown has done very well for himself and created a successful company in Bristol but he moved to Guernsey for one reason and one reason only, to not pay personal UK tax - that makes him a tax dodger. And let's face it, if there was a little less casino banking and creating money out of money, our country wouldn't be in the **** it's in now. I'm more than happy to receive abuse from Teds as I dish it out aplenty, by Pirate is always courteous. Delboy has demonstrated both a lack of grace and pig ignorance in one post. Chump indeed.
Pirate I apologise for my language, I hadn't really looked at who I was replying to, as you can see from your brethren above we are used to bad language from you lot (ok we probably deserve it for winding you up on here). Anyway, I take it back. Hope there are no hard feelings Moving on to the tax debate, SL has made his fortune through hard work and being a better business man than those around him. He has created massive wealth, jobs etc for the region. He is just a 'normal' bloke done good as opposed to born with a silver spoon in his mouth. I wonder how many tradesmen are on here who work cash in hand on jobs and don't put things through the books? And if you aren't a tradesman doing this I bet you know one, or have paid one in cash? I'm sure people are happy to turn a blind eye to not paying VAT because of paying cash in hand - "Fair play to Dave mind, he don't want to pay tax on that" At least Lansdown is within the rules. Perhaps the government should try to encourage businesses and wealthy individuals/entrepeneurs etc to the UK by reducing corporation tax/or tax on the weathy, thereby creating more jobs, building the economy and helping Joe Bloggs in the street? But no, we are British we have to criticise and punish those who have done well for themselves. Just a thought. Rant over, apologies again Pirate.
Isn't the point of the new govenment policy on tax avoidance 'Name and Shame'? Rather than introduce another load of red tape and rules which are made to be broken and avoided, the new policy is to make aware to the public those people who are clearly avoiding paying their fair dues into the community pot. If the money is earned in the UK, then tax should be paid in the UK. OK most of us at some stage may have fiddled a cash payment to avoid tax or VAT, but the guys on the list aren't fiddling a few pounds they are avoiding paying millions of pounds into the coffers which support the cause for the total population. They avoid paying more money than the average punter will earn in a lifetime. Is that fair? Is it altruistic? Should they be ashamed of themselves? Your Call!
So the owners of........ Chelsea,Man Utd,Arsenal,ManCity,Aston Villa,Liverpool,QPR,Reading,Southampton,Blackburn,Cardiff,Nottingham Forest,Leeds,Leicester,Watford,Birmingham and Bristol City are to be castigated for owning, investing, creating businesses in the UK,thus offering thousands of jobs in the UK,all for living in a place or country of their choice.... What nonsense...
Of course not Wiz. You know perfectly well that was not the point of my post! Everybody has the right to live where they can afford to and choose who they work for when choice is available. Every worker who is employed by a company contributes towards the profits of the company (if it makes any); his/her own salary and towards the salaries of the high earners in the company. My point was/is that if a salary is earned in the UK then one should pay taxes in the UK. The rules at the moment permit that not to happen and the objective of the proposals is to attempt to persuade individuals to adopt an altruistic approach which benefits the whole population, not just the individual concerned. Are you seriously suggesing that none of the British nationals on the Name and Shame list are NOT technically (and I mean technically) living outside the UK for tax avoidance reasons? You are not that naive I am sure!!
I don't understand why people hate tax dodgers. No-one hates those who dodge other forms of theft such as burglary and carjackings. What, just because the government give us a corrupt police service and a **** (yet somehow idolized) health service, we have to gladly hand our money over when the tax collecting mafiosi come a calling?
