I am not judging the team on 2 performances, I AM judging MH on his performances last season, his transfers, his pre season, his tactics..............
Hughes's transfers? Cisses's goals kept us up. Players kept losing their heads and getting sent off which restricted Hughes tactical options, yet we went on to beat 4 top sides in our run in which no fan thought could be done. He turned adel from petulant under performer in to a hard working team player. He had the balls to drop Barton, the result if which was Barton coming back hungry and ready to prove a point, which he did, last game being the exception. But then that isn't Hughes fault. You can whinge all you like about hughes, but after 2 games calling for his head, are you auditioning for a role as briatore's mini me in the sequel to the four year plan? Cause that is who you sound like, and I seem to remember not too many fans agreed with him or liked him very much. Yet here you are acting just like him. Very strange.
Agree. The last thing we need is the Briatore revolving door policy back. MH has to have a good chance with his reformed team - I'd say 6 or 7 games before there is a serious re-evaluation at board level if things are still not right. I just hope these rumours about the dressing room being unsettled are wrong. My mind goes back to the Magilton headbutt on Buzsaky, and Adel getting on the bus after Fulham away (and not playing well until NW was gone). If they're not playing for each other and the manager, we're in trouble.
Yes, perhaps I'm overstating the case by remembering the headbutt, but they didn't look a particularly happy team before and after the match yesterday. Then again, I don't want to read too much in...
My guess would be that they were focused and trying to act professional...I would have thought Hughes has given them all a pretty tough time over the last week and after last weeks result, why should they be happy?!?
That's true, Jammers. I thought Green looked apprehensive after the match, which was strange given that his performance was pretty good, and in particular he made one excellent save in the second half. Dunno what Walsall will tell us...
pre season is all about building up fitness after the summer break and lots of the players in the pre season squad have now gone.look at the squad liverpool have and look how poorly they have started,an established huge club struggling for form compared to us in the building process. there are two ways teams go at the start they gel quickly or it takes a bit of time there is no other way to look at it in my view.do we have a steven gerrard? no we don't as players like him come along once in a generation,we have ale faurlin but he is in the final stages of his comeback from a bad injury and needs to be taken care of properly. the buzzword for me is patience but some fans seem to have less than harold shipman,we are all different in our views and outlook on what is needed but some need to take a step back and realise where we are instead of where they expect us to be as they are two vastly different scenario's.
It's not very often that I agree with Bobmid, but this is on such occasion. Good on you Bob. Agree totally. Good post.
Pre season is not just about fitness, mainly match sharpness as professionals have to stay fit all year round. Pre season is about finding out how you are going to play with the players available to you and to put this into practise by the way of a match scenario.
Sorry Nuts I may have read too much into it and over-reacted. Bit tetchy at the moment. Seriously disappointed with our opening 2 games and worried about Hughes ability to get the best out of the undoubted good quality players being accumulated.
I'm silently ****ting myself as well. Just working hard on staying positive. My head is spinning. I need to get to Loftus Rd ASAP.
