If Bruce had remained, I honestly believe Cisse would have signed. That would have left Mignolet (650k, brilliant), O'Shea, Brown, Larsson, Sessegnon, McLean, CISSE as a starting point of Bruce's legacy. He had a few flops, most were sold at either a minimal loss or a small profit. He oversaw the sale of a £5million player to Liverpool for £16million, and turned a £!4million profit on an unhappy Darren Bent. Tactically he was inept, but transfer wise, I'd say he did some smashing business. He did the same at Wigan, by all accounts.
I don't know how long NMG has been a fan of Sunderland, but we are finally an established premier league club and we owe a lot of that to Bruce. Remember the days of reid, Wilkins, McCarthy? Also MoN has a had been handed a much better squad than when Bruce took the reins from keane. I'm sick of the slagging off of Bruce he was a good manager but he just didn't have what it takes to take us to the next level.
Bruce has excellent contacts within the game. The Welbeck loan was a great example. Figueroa and Palacios were another two. Welbeck came about because of Fergie, the other because he had an excellent relationship with Wenger. Wenger mentioned them as two he'd looked at and liked but just didn't need. He has signed some good players in his time. Tacticallly I think he came up short everywhere he's been as evidenced by his struggles wherever he's been. Have to say though, Cisse and Ba were only ever destined for one place.............
I've had word with Graham but he says he's too die hard Newcastle to agree to such a move. He has however suggested Alan Carr, his son. He has a great eye for flair.
Yes I can remember johnson, summerbee, phillips and quinn under reid. It was exciting and entertaining and there were two consecutive 7th place finishes that we have never looked like equalling since.
The league has since improved in fairness... Arsenal, Chelsea, Man Utd, Man City, Tottenham...theres 5 places straight away, then you have liverpool, fulham and the scum up the road as well, them are all top 10 teams and we have to have a squad to match/beat these which currently our squad is average with no forward line.... it would take at least 3 years to catch up to what tottenham have done imo...you have to get the players and keep the manager and make sure he has his squad in place...
Have read every post on this thread , and all I can think of , is the amount of spare time folks have on their hands these days. As for the thread itself, didnt do anything for me, heard it all before.
