For me, I don't think there's any stand-out candidates that I know of, so if sacking Hughton meant we got someone off the perennial managerial merry-go-round, I don't see the point in sacking him. However, my knowledge of French, Dutch, German, Spanish or Italian managers is very, very poor, whilst I'd expect McNally's (or that of his advisors) to be much stronger. If there's someone in Serie B or the Eredivisie who looks like the next big thing, then let's the lure of a Premier League role (and the money, transfer kitty, prestige that comes with it) to grab them.
I believe Christian Gross had a good pedigree abroad, let's ask the Spurs fans what they thought of him!
We could compare their relative abilities in the leagues In which they plied their NCFC trade! Rodent was poor in the championship and got fired. Arguably Hughton is poor in the PL and should/will get fired! Bah!
Bit before my memory stretches back to unfortunately, but filled myself in! It's a risk, sure, every appointment is, but I don't believe there's currently any more talented managers in the English leagues, so where else are we supposed to look? If we bring in a tactically-savvy manager, then I'd hope they'd stand a good chance of adapting to the challenges the Premier League bring. Arguably we've got Prem-style players (all Carrabuh's hated attributes), so it's not like our team would suddenly become too lightweight overnight to cope with the physical challenge of the league, but hopefully the new manager could give us new ideas when it comes to going forwards, and look to bring in the type of players to allow us to play better football. Seeing as I apparently don't have a lot better to do this evening (well, that I want to be doing), let's see who's reccommended: Viktor Goncharenko - Ex-Manager of the top club in Belarus, plays tactics based on solid, "powerful" defence, and quick transitions from midfield. His team are good at keeping possession against inferior teams (particularly domestic), but against better sides (in Europe) they counter-attack to great effect, including being the first manager to take a club from Belarus into the Champion's League proper. Known as a great motivator. Unfortunately moved in October to Kuban Krasnodor in the Russian Prem. Thomas Tuchel - Manager of Mainz 05, plays "fast, attractive, attacking football", and has taken relegation candidates into the Europa league, and comfortable mid-table finishes. Plays either 4-5-1 or 4-4-2 with the midfield picked to suit the opposition. Another charismatic manager apparently. Unai Emery - Current manager of Sevilla, previously with Spartak Moscow, Valencia and Almeria. Known for being a student of the game and watching an awful lot of football. A bit of a tinkerman, but known for playing good football, particularly at Almeria.
Sorry DH, my response was solely used for the response from carrabuh so that I could play my trump card! In reallity there are several decent foreign managers in the prem including the two at Swans and Saints. It would be a risk, but there is an element of risk with ANY new manager!
One of which doesn't appear to have much grasp of the English language, if his interviews are anything to go by. obviously, that could be a major problem, although the Saints seem to be coping with it, it doesn't mean we would.
It wasn't a problem for mancini when he first came to city: You could say that as his english improved, the team did less well. As I may have mentioned before I knew the interpreter at city and it may have been something to do with the fact that the interpreter captivated the players and they listened carefully to every word spoken
I believe he actually uses English in training and to direct the players, he's just not confident enough to use it in interviews. I can't say I blame him, trying to use an analogy or make a joke in an unfamiliar language could cause him to accidentally offend people, sound racist, etc, so this way he avoids the issue.
Its a misconception that I hate physical attributes, I hate them being the primary reason for signing or playing them. The amount of times people will gush over signings or potential signings with superlatives about speed, strength, height, power and neglect or add it as a footnote to say anything about whether they can pass or control a ball. Being small or being patient is never seen as something good. This country is terrible for it, its why we never win anything. With regards to the managers, I'd like the Sevilla boss, never happen mind
Took some finding, but hear this thread is like a bad smell. Encouraging performance today, but ultimately we have now hit the turn 19 played, 19pts -16gd. Are we making progress? Once again for my money no, CH simply isn't taking us forward, still hasn't really given us a 90minute performance, most of the time it's poor, but some good performances in losing isn't cutting it! Hughton out! Give the newby the January window and let's hope it works, because CH + NCFC = a painful slide to the championship! Bah!
On the surface of it, we are not making progress BUT a similar return from the next 19 games will probably mean PL football again next season. Whether or not CH is the right man is still in question for many I guess, but he is on target for doing enough, albeit just.
You mean like only playing Hoolahan when there is absolutely no alternative, because his idea of a footballer is some neantherdal who can run quickly? How is he doing enough? Today showed that there is no way that we should be where we are in the league and there is only one reason for that - Hughton. The happy clappers tell us Fox wasn't Premiership class, Surman wasn't Prem class, Hoolahan isn't Prem class - the whole fecking squad apparently isn't Prem class. Is it possible that the reality is exactly the opposite? That the person who is not Prem class is Hughton? If we keep him, we are relegated. Period. We don't have the guts and the fight against the bottom teams and we don't have the luck against the top ones. The happy clappers will say that I am a traitor and a plastic (although they seem quite happy to ditch people like Wes and somehow that isn't equally traitorous) but if he is still here at the end of the season, we will start next year in the Championship. And I am quite happy to take responsibility for that statement and to eat humble pie if it isn't true. He isn't up to the job. The simple, unacceptable truth.
38 might be enough, it might not be either. Trouble is even if he gets to 38pts and we were to stay up, do you honestly believe messers Bowket n McNasty will see it as progress? He's a sackedman walking, if he isn't now he will be in the summer because he just isn't good enough! Then I'm just impatient, fancy judging him on 57 lge games + cups. Bah!
I would say that they should not view it as progress, as it is not, in terms of points or position (as I would expect 38 points being 16th or 17th). So if the mandate was to make progress, then the board need to think long and hard about the future of the gaffer. I am in the CH to go camp by the way, but if I think there is something to say in his defence, I will put that forward - I am not at the level of Vietnam or Kick It Off just yet
