To be fair, Alonso never wanted to leave - Benitez told him if an acceptable offer came in for him they would accept it. It says a lot about Alonso' attitude that after that he chose to fight rather than have a strop.
Modrick is winning...he got a pay rise £75000 pw. http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2896...am-ready-to-offer-luka-modric-75000-a-week-as
Hm. There does appear to be a lot of wishful thinking going on in this thread: "Modric not very good" and "VDV and Bale will follow" and "Spurs will suffer without him" etc. I take it that none of you have seen the more recent article in The Independent, in which it is admitted that the The Daily Fail twisted what Moddy actually said. He's always made it clear that he is happy at Spurs and will not look to leave whilst we still want him to play for us. Given that he only signed a new 6 year contract with us last season, it's always been pretty obvious that we intend to keep him (and all our other stars) for quite a few seasons, to help bring us glory. Harry and Levy are both on the look out for three or four top new players to bring into the club to improve us, and to ensure that we can make a serious challenge for the title. Finishing in the top 4 should be a minimum aim, not the primary aim. The lazy hack journo at The Daily Fail who "broke" the original "Moddy to Chelsea" story was banned from White Hart Lane last season for writing untruths about the club's players, so his current story is seen very much as the pathetic machinations of a bitter WUM. I'm sure that some of you 'Pool fans will understand that.
No surprise there, as for the comments on the thread, if Spurs had sold Modric their ambition would have been clear, also how many times has managers said one thing and another happened, you of all should know that with a quick glimpse of 'Arrys previous club history. But he is a media darling and he did get ye CL footy so I expect ye should think good of him, and Modric is staying. so.. Modric is not as good as the hype suggests and his return tally for th ereason says a lot.
Jesus... I think someone should print that off and frame it. an Arsenal fan claim that a spurs player is the best at something
Have none of you honestly seen the more recent article in The Independent? If you have read that, you'll be aware that it's highly unlikely that Modric will be leaving Spurs. Why do you insist on raking over this non-story?
This one here? http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/modric-changes-tack-after-spurs-stand-firm-over-chelsea-interest-2299988.html Just thought I'd post a link for you, so that others can have a read.
Yes, that's the one. I said, ever since the story broke, that the whole thing had been orchestrated by The Daily Fail hack and some chancer of an unofficial agent to unsettle the player into putting in a transfer request. The problem always was that Modric is, in fact, a very nice bloke and not the kind of person to force Levy's hand. He can have everything he wants at Spurs, given that he is probably considered, even by his team mates, as being our biggest star. Why go and become a bit player at the Chavs? Sure, he'd be on more money, but money is not everything, and he'll certainly never go hungry at Spurs. I predict that he'll be with us for a very long time.
Be nice to see that just to prove the game is not full of mercenaries any more. I do love watching Modric even if he does player for you!
I wouldnt say Modric wants to leave Spurs for a big club,as Chelsea aren't a big club. However Chelsea are a bigger club than Spurs. The fact that the last time Spurs won the league...Ken Barlow had acne proves it.
