Aye that's right. it would have been better to send all those educated, highly skilled protestants to the front line instead of having them in place just at the time when the clyde shipyards were breaking all output records to keep up with the war effort. I'm sure getting some fenian holediggers and tarmacers in would have sufficed.

Or they could have secured some of the durty taigs hiding down the coal mines of Lanarkshire during the war to work on the ships.

"Here Paddy put that shovel down and get welding"

    Canny see it myself tbh.

Yes, its called self-preservation. Not to bring upon yourself a fight you aren't sure you can win. Self-preservation is the very same reason, as Ciaran pointed out, the Brits legged it from Dunkirk. Why didn't they stay and fight rather than give the Nazi's carte blanche over northern France for the next 4 years?

An inexcusable act. Likely it was either as part of seeking to reclaim territories lost post-WW1, or in a pragmatic sense to increase the buffer between the Nazi lines and Moscow. Still doesn't make it an alliance.

    This sounds like projection.

I'm not going to argue that Stalin's Red Army was in anyway virtuous. They probably could have done considerably more, their reasons for not may have been genuine and maybe not. Its irrelevant to what I am arguing anyway. I'm simply stating that from a military standpoint, Russia won the war.

Hardy har har. Much as i have enjoyed your primary school version of WWII I do think you have omitted/ignored quite a few relevant facts.

I suggest you google 'lend-lease and try to remember that World war didn't just mean Europe.

    You're welcome

    Here's the facts lads.

Russia was on her knees and didn't have the where with all to mount a challenge to the mighty German war machine.

    FACT.

Russia went, red star badged cap in hand to the USA and begged them to bail them out. The USA did so to the tune of hundreds of millions of tons of arms, munitions, vehicles, planes, even clothes and food.

    FACT.

The brave men of the British royal and merchant navies risked thier lives to deliver Russia's bail out and lost millions of tonnes of shipping doing so.

    FACT.

The good protestant men of the clyde braved German bombardment and worked round the clock, breaking every known production records to replace that lost shipping and keep the fight against the evil nazi empire going.

    FACT.

So ultimately we can all see that it was the heroic effort of those loyal protestant men of the clyde shipyards that won the war in Europe.

    God save the queen.

You know what I can't be arsed when you clearly believe Putin's version of the war, but to be fair it's certainly "a" version.

As for the Brits legging it from Dunkirk rather than stay and fight <rofl>

Think you'll find it was ny grandad what won it. He was in the Home Guard in London throughout the blitz, putting two fingers up to the Luftwaffe every night.
